You have a cell phone don't ya? Every time it connects to a different tower it is logged. Those records will be subpoenaed in case of a serious accident. So no reason not to take advantage of prepass and electronic tolling. Any tracking you are trying to avoid with those is tracked right on your phone.

Edit to add: as far as the crane is holding you up. It's called detention. Bill for it and move on.

Yes I know. Was just validating the comment above. I have I pass and use it. I know they know where I am at all times. Lol

The original question was about weather anything will change with the law? Sitting waiting on a crane won't change even with ELog. Driver detention still cheaper than expedited crane. Although detention never seems to be enough on a Friday.

I looked up PC under J.J.Keller Motor Carrier Guidance and there is no law on how far you can drive under Personal Conveyance like you said, it was put in theory that you could drive from Chicago to Fresco to visit family, BUT, it is illegal to use PC to reposition a truck for another load, it has to be round trip and not one way. I hope I did read this correctly.

Well said. It's nice to hear a working man that still has consideration and respect for other working people.

If we did everything we are 'supposed' to do then how would the fine uniformed men with badges have a job? They need some kind of justification for their salaries.

When I take a load to get to my home state, as soon as I get unloaded, I log off duty and head home. Whether thats 20 mins from the house or 2 hours. Its what I do and will continue to do.

What are they going to do,.. arrest me for driving home? I do not have or need company babysitters holding my hand and micromanaging me. I am a grown man and make my own decisions. I am not saying what I do is legal or illegal,.. only that when I want to head to the house,.. I'm heading to the house. Arguing what someone does on paper logs and what another can or can not do on elogs is irrelevant to me.

As a dyslexic, I don't think the government should tell you what kind of Light Bulbs you should use in your headlights.

And if you figure that one out I am proud of you.

its funny to me that the guys complaining about elogs coming haven't even tried them, more people on here are saying if you run and keep your doors shut you can make the same money if not more at the end of the week, law says 11 driving and 14 total working,if I'm getting close to those I start looking for a hole to crawl in to,in todays working environment they have you time stamped anyway, roll across a scale you are time stamped, use a toll road they know when you enter and exit, prepass a scale time stamp, cell phone, yep they know when and where you were,so I'm just saying why risk your job for a few extra miles today, chances are your gonna be burning up your clock somewhere else the next day,get in an accident they know if you should have been there or not,and when you are marking 15 minutes for fuel I'm only logging the time it takes, arrive at my delivery poiny at 1212 pm,you are marking 1215,just saved me 3 minutes, run California and back from Oklahoma I can have more time available on my elog than you will have on paper, and when I park I just change to off duty or sleeper and I'm done while you are still coloring and trying to average your miles for the day, start in the morning do my 15 minute pretrip and c-ya I'm gone, plus all my info for my loads come over the elog so I don't have to converse with dispatch anymore than needed, keep fighting it and complaining while I'm rolling down the road with no worries about if my log is current if smokey wants to look at it,and another thing when stopped by scales or an officer they ask if you are on elogs and when answered with a yes they don't even look at it,have fun worrying and complaining,c-ya

I've worked for two companies at the time that they went to elogs. One was twelve years ago. They both said they would save drivers time. It might save some drivers time, but I can have all of my info filled in and backed under my trailer before the computer even gets finished booting. I know this because both companies made drivers use both logs for several months to make sure there were no issues. You cannot use all of your eleven hours of drive time on elogs. If traffic backs up before you get to your planned stop, or if there is no parking at your planned stop, you run out of time. There's no way around it. I guess ya'll are the guys that park with your trailers sticking out in the road, or have the fuel pumps blocked, or the rest area locked up because you can't go any farther. Me ad my paper log will go right on down the road until I find a better place. Or I can stop before it even gets that bad. You can have 'em.

Company drivers(including lease operators), you can not compare yourselves and your elogs to owner operators running their own numbers, just stop it already, you have different kind of goals and operation

Once you get a couple of months of experience you'll find trip planning is a piece of cake.
