Swift has had 57' trailers. Dozens of them used to line the terminals and drop yards in the southern west coast states. Apparently they couldn't find drivers for them.

I can't speak for Ontario, but I will argue about the States.
A eight foot spread triple will add 8K to the gross bridge weight but not 8k to the capacity. The axle and its appendages will add about 2k to the tare and therefore capacity will only increase 6k.
The pictured trailer is not a 8" spread for the triple. A 9" spread triple is good for 42.5k. minus the 2k for equipment weight and that trailer would be good for another 6.5k in the states. Hardly worth the effort. -
Great post. Never seen that list before. Where did you find it? However, looked up some of the states listed and many if not most allow that trailer only on special permit. That permit is often as limited as single day use only so one is unlikely to find 57' in all of those states.
WA allows 56' on the general extended length permit. Very few take advantage of that.
The big hitch is where do you find a cabover with emissions.gentleroger Thanks this. -
True, I neglected to mention that many of those states require a special permit to use a 57.
I got the list from:

Somewhere around 100,000. Triaxles in Canada pretty much all qualify for (I think) 46,000kg.
My company runs 12,000lb steers, 37,500lb drives and 50,600lb tridems and scales legal from BC to Ontario. Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland are all 88,000 lb gross max on triaxles IIRC. -
Remember the old movie "The Big Bus"? I'll come out of retirement when they have a set up like that.

Dolly Madison and Wonder Bread use to haul double '48 all the time on the Thruway. I went on a waiting list for that years ago when I worked for IBC. Those guys were making over $3k a week back then.

We haul double 48's, with a single axle dolly and sometimes even a single axle tractor. No real current pictures here, I'll have to try to grab one. We're using CNG Volvo VNL's in NY.
