I went over 14 minutes last night and Qualcomm makes it hard to notice.
They could easily have an obvious tell for a DOT officer, but they don't

Regs tend to state what one CANNOT do, not what one CAN do.

I for one am not going to log moving trailers around our lot on line 3. That would be all shades of stupid.

A truck stop is still privately owned. The public just happens to use it. They still have the option to determine who can stay and who is trespassing, just like at a shipper/receiver.

My post was not about what you can or cannot do. It was about what you MUST do anytime you are operating the vehicle in the eyes of DOT. If your operating the vehicle then you need to be logging that as driving.

I myself think we should be allowed to log any operation of the vehicle while on a shipper or receiver's property as just on duty not driving. Ultimately it is up to us how we choose to log our times, but if we are logging them different then the regs say we are supposed to then we would face a possible infraction if we get caught.

I would like someone to produce some sort of evidence of having gotten a citation from an LEO for the scenario of logging driving around their terminal's lot or some other manner of non-public property on line 4. At that point I might be convinced of there being something to this. Until then it's much ado about nothing as far as I'm concerned.

Now, I'll admit that elogs and the potential zeal of a company's safety department certainly change the map here, but if you run paper I see little reason to shoot one's self in the foot by voluntarily choosing to shorten one's moneymaking time so long as the 14 and 70 hour limits are observed.
