Ah, hometime. Those 5 hectic, stress-filled days of running around like a crazy man, shopping, spending money like I'll die tomorrow, flip-flopping on the Queen-sized bed because it's not an uncomfortable Twin-sized truck mattress, and sitting. Just sitting. Not driving...just sitting.

Taking a reset at Love's somewhere in Virginia. There is much to love about this state, I suppose. What created the experience I had today is not one of them, but that's all I will say about it.

What I didn't write about was what happened a few days ago. I was at the main terminal in De Pere in the middle of a run and decided to get a few minor items checked by the shop there...some inside lights were inop, some 12v plugs didn't work, and I badly needed new wiper blades. As usual, I went to the drivers lounge to wait.
Not long after I got there, I got a call from the shop that I should come over and pick out a loaner truck; it seems that computer analysis showed my turbo was about to fail (causing the two warning lights I also mentioned) and a long list of other malfunctions.
I spent the next couple of hours swapping some items from my truck to the loaner (another Pete but a year newer) in preparation for what might have been (they said) anything from 3-10 days in it.
The next day, I left on my previously scheduled trip. The loaner truck has a nice "front of the house," as my chef daughter might say, but the "back of the house," the bunk area, not so much. It was a double bunk so there was a significant reduction in storage space, as I learned while trying to put my temporary belongings away.
There was also the matter of my not having access to the back wall, because of the upper bunk which I used as support when I read or - like now - type. No worries, I said. It's temporary. And the front of the house really is nicer; they made a LOT of changes in one model year.
When I returned, I learned my truck was ready to roll and I spent some time moving all my temporary gear back home.
And I was happy...until I went inside to see my DM. He told me the loaner was now mine and my now-former truck was going into the lease fleet. I told him I liked the changes they made up front in the 2015, but since it's a double bunk truck, shouldn't it go to one of the teams or trainers? No, he said. It's yours.
So I spent many more hours moving ALL my belongings out of one truck into the truck I'd just emptied. And I've spent a few nights trying to figure out where to put it all and not getting much restful sleep.
I'm on a reset now for an anytime-Monday delivery, so it's something I'll work on. -
I use the top bunk for all my storage...just remove the mattress and use plastic totes to put everything in. This way when you need to move you already have all your stuff packed.
Use the netting for the top bunk to secure it while driving.
