"Once a Marine, Alway a Marine", Semper Fi.
This question is for former Marines, retired or not: Comparing the head games that were played on us and with us in the Corps to the games played with truckers, which would you consider to be the worst?
I know from working other jobs before and after my tour of duty that there are games played everywhere and from my personnal experience the games played in the Corps had me prepared for anything that was thrown my way and I could always take it as nothing but a game that they were playing trying to get in my head.
One last question: Who would you recommend working for and who would you not recommend?
Thanks for any time you take to share,

Seems like the games played by people after the Corps never really had much affect on me. You won't have anything to worry about.
As for recommendations, more info would be helpful. What are you looking for?
Most of the large companies will train you if you agree to work for them for a set period of time. They are all basically the same, a place to get started, put in your time, and get experience. After a year or two with one company with no tickets or accidents, you will be able to get a job with anyone.

Thanks, that was pretty much what I was thinking.
I am looking to do OTR, I don't want to be stuck on one route driving the same road everyday. Also, I figured exactly what you said, get on with a big company, pay my dues, keep my nose clean and move on to something or someone better down the road.
Thanks for responding,
I have been busy reading one of the 18 page threads from experienced drivers, lots of good tips and several funny comments from the guys and gals!
Again, thanks and of course Semper Fi,

Ahh-good ol'29 stumps --still have family there-my Dad retired there...
As for Companys--assuming you dont have Cl A yet, you might think
Central Refrig, Swift, Werner, etc.. Central has a school in Fontana
If you have an Cl A- Crete, Celadon, Central refrig, KLLM,
Search the lists on this site--Great Info

Hi pjw044,
Thanks for taking the time to write. Yeah, still at the stumps. If it's been a while since you were here, believe it or not we are getting a Casino that should be done sometime next year. Also the fifth major hotel is in the process of being built.
I just finished shoveling my yard out of the street and back where it belongs for the second time in three weeks, you know flash flood season. The second one was bad enough that Adobe Rd was closed to base for four days!
Looks like I am going the Swift route. I am not worried about all of the negative things I have heard about them, after all I could have gone in any of the easy services when I made that choice, I didn't though and still got out with my honorable. Enough said on that, if you can put up with all the games, you can put up with anything.
I guess right now the main thing I am looking at is the experience part and worry about the rest later.
Thanks, and Semper Fi,

Been awhile-- nothing wrong with Swift, fair starter company for some.
It is what you make of it,use it to Your advantage...heard that somewhere before..
Last time in 29 was 1987...a lifetime ago...
good luck with this new chapter in your lifes journey !!!!

If you need to go to a CDL school, go to one not tied to a company. That way, you don't have to be with your first company for a year or two if things are really going bad.

In any military branch you can make 1 mistake after years of service and get busted to E-1 . Nothing in the trucking industry compares to that . I'm a USMC Viet Nam vet . I saw a lot of people with 12-16 years denied reenlistment and get shafted out of retirement .

I saw the same thing, back when there was the downsizing going on. I was in from 81-87, also the time when there were fewer promotions and re-enlistment bonus's. I knew I would get the straight scoop here!
Thanks,
