I doubt any newbie expects to make 100k out of the gate or any time. Im a newb and i know in reality i might take home 25k my first year. #### wages but being new nobody is going to pay a good wage in any career. Prove you can do the job and higher wages will come not the other way around.

And nobody mentions the part about not having a boss in your face all day like every other job. To me thats priceless. You are technically your own boss even as a company driver. Yes you have bosses but how many times during the day do you talk to them or see them?

    Yup ... This ...

And just so happened that several of these now big companies even prospered and grew fairly large themselves because they were now allowed to compete with the then big boys who use to have a lock on the shipping lanes.

Many of today's companies, I work for one, decided to compete, invest, hire, fire, grow their business... Many started out as just a few drivers or a few trucks... And THEY made it work.

Ok, so if the competition (RR) is already cheaper, your solution is to increase a material cost (labor) within the trucking sector? Ok.

And "paid hourly" is not the answer... I can just see half of the drivers taking 60 minutes to do a Pre Trip... and expecting to get paid for sleeping in the bunk while others load or unload their load...

Hourly will only increase the cost of supervision not result in higher wages for anyone.

Just my two cents worth... for what it's worth.

"Pay by the hour!" Said the guy with nothing to risk financially and no investors to convince. The reason truck driving is so attractive for many [the autonomy and no direct, continuous supervision] is the same reason that model would never work unless you only employed the top 30% of drivers who could/would work for what they earn.

Listen, I heard the $100K first year crap when I went to trucking school. I didn't believe it and I am glad you have enough sense but many don't. Many buy the big pay check crap hook line and sinker. Stick around long enough and you will see newbies asking where they can go to make $100K with 3 months experience. Then you get others insisting they drove solo 5k miles a week and banked $100k when they worked at CRE.

Exactly... My QC goes off... Tells me where/when to pick something up and where/when to drop it off.... For a fee (loosely based on CPM) I simply do the job and I don't hear from anyone... As long as I am efficient and on time... Simple really.

So ya, at times I'm "working for free" but most of the time I am barely working (driving) and making a pretty good return on my time.

And no boss to care... Just be on time.

Ok, "ungodly" is not the best word...

    Is "obscene" better??? :)
