I had 10 grand put aside for when I picked up my truck last October. But I also have a nice retirement and this is second career for me. I DO however never use funds from my retirement for the truck business. I have been profitable every month but 1 so far and that's when I was done for 19 days for the new injector rail.. But I never went past due or non current with SFI, I have been paying an extra 300.00 per week on my truck for over 6 months it adds a nice safety net. This IC gig is a lot and I mean a lot of planning and logistics.

Fw , you'd do good to add the qualifiers "for me" or "for my business model" when talking about lower rates at other places . keep it true to you. others run what they run for their own reasons and needs or wants.

    something to think about.

I say let them keep running how they choose.

Don't try and convince anybody the choice program is the way to go.

Without those who choose to run under a mileage contract then programs like choice would be even more flooded and even harder to make a better living.

Drivers running cheap isn't why the rates are the way they are, the rates are so low because megas control capacity and therefore the rates.

Even if there were zero mileage O/O or l/p drivers the megas drive the rates down for the majority of freight because they have so many pieces of equipment they need to keep moving.

Besides the rates aren't as low as we're told or we see, just look at some smaller companies and the rates they get.

    To each their own.

FW, to you they may be working for peanuts, true O/O or even Smaller company IC's will say we're working for peanuts.

I think you do well but for me I'd never work as you do because I put hometime at the top of my list and I wouldn't stay out like you do for 10k a week.

See its all relative to a person's priorities.

I could go somewhere else (as some on here have flatly told me too) and make more money but it's hometime I value more than money. So as long as I can get home every 5 or 6 days and net 1800 or so +or- I'll stay here.

I don't always do 1800 but for the full week average that's it and that 5.5 days at the most working.

    So to each their own.

See but you still do very well and run smart, heck you even have the sexiest truck out of the ICs here.
I choose to stay out and you choose to go home more often but you do it smart and do well financially which i respect.
You've been here longer than me and are doing well, if anything you are a role model to some that you can go home often and still do well.
My only comments were about the whole .90 a mile mileage carriers.
As far as the money here well just my opinion but i still havent found another Van carrier i could earn more money at soooo I think I'm doing the best with what I can. I think all us on the fourm are doing a lot better than any of these mileage contracts and thats a huge reason why we're all still here. Expect for one that just got their own authority and another soon to leave this business for a different one but thats different.

    Donald aka TennMan,
I'm in the same "boat" I made more in the beginning but home time suffered now I have been home a lot. I agree 1500.00 to 2000.00 clear and home every week is plenty for me some times I only stay 2 days maybe leave on a Sunday to shove in some load... FW in a way has little worries when it comes to home time...and it's awesome he can run the way he wants...give that young buck a wife and 2 kids he will change. But he will adapt which is a key, and part of this program.
