Some folks aren't cut out to drive. Sounds like your "bro" (actual brother or friend) is one of those. You can't fix it. They have to. I'm assuming you've already had more than a few conversations about this.

Regarding slowing freight, it always slows in the first and second quarters for retail heavy carriers. 50% of retail sales are for Christmas. BTS (Back To School) is going to start shipping from distribution centers soon, then Fall, and then Christmas. The Christmas surge is right up until Thanksgiving, then it drops off with a small post Christmas surge of Spring.

He's decent with the lifestyle, but not the money making part. I have.a different work ethic. I was logging at 14 \m/ til I was 17 from then I was an electrician til I was 20 then I started a business and failed but that's alright I'm young and can take a hit like that. He's only had part time jobs. And as we all know truck driving is much more than a 70hr per week job, it really adds up with all the dumb little things you gotta do. Constantly switching sleep schedules, ect.

First, on the giving notice part. Always give notice. Always. It is the correct and moral thing to do. Most times the second that you give them notice they will have you turn the truck in right away. Lots of stuff gets lost after someone turns in their notice. You protect your DAC by giving notice. Do so in WRITING and thank them for all you have learned while driving for them. Keep it positive.

Second, never do business with family. Teaming with a brother is asking for trouble. Same with a church member. Only go into business with someone who you can walk away from. The bottom line is the only thing you should be concerned with, not personal feelings.

If you are driving as a team you should consider buying your own truck. Let the other guy make some of the payments.

ok...what you have there is what we used to call, "a truck stop trucker'. can;t pass by a truck stop, unless he stops for a while.
now, on another note, i have had problems with urinating. i used to hold it in, for the 550 miles from here to Richmond, VA. NOT SMART!

as a result, my specialist told me, to STOP about every 2-3 hours and "squirt the dirt". which is what i have to do, since i screwed up my body.

so stopping for squirting is a valid reason, but not the stopping for "breaks" as much as he does. it is still a job, that MUST be done. i also had co-drivers in my earlier years. i hated it, as i had to pick up the slack from thier inadequate ability to pull thier own weight. believe me, i'd speak up to my dispatcher, they either get into another truck, or i move on.

i'd win, every time. nothing pisses me off more than a co-driver that cannot pull his weight. so yeah, bro or not, dump his ###. since he is NOT pulling his weight, yes indeed, you are not getting the miles.

leave him and CRST far, far behind, you will really be much better for it.

I would love to buy my own truck, but there is so much more to learn. I figured if I get some experience in most fields, it should give me an of where I want to go. Plus I'm only 23, and my car insurance is 200$ a month and I haven't had an accident in 5 years, soooo I don't want to know what insurance is for a big truck haha. And that gives me time to explore more and learn more so I can say I know what the hell in doing some what.

I thought we would work well together, as we have in the past, but your right, no relationship has business in, well your business.

I put my two weeks in, and explained why, I told her that the miles have not been sufficient, and I need to follow other opportunities because the company and its policies are no longer the best for me. I told her that she has been great, and I have no problems with her or CRST, and she said she understands and she's sad to see me go. I also through in some other irrelevant Mumbo jumbo.

Now it's just picking where to go, I've been asking tons of people but have no idea at all. Tanker? Flatbed? No clue. Melton offered me .47 cpm. ATS offered me .40cpm with an oversize load pay of an additional .7cpm to .31cpm. Smith offered me 44cpm and I get home every weekend doing north east regional. I really don't feel like there is any money in the north east because it's a giant pain in the ###, and all the larger cities are very close to each other, also there's not a whole of truck friendly areas up here.

I had a co driver before my bro, and he was an ex marine, and did 650 a day at the minimum, and if he didnt get 650, he would beat himself up about how he's not doing enough. He was an EXCELLENT worker. But still had much to learn about the life. He was from Florida, and I got sick of flying back and forth from CT, and my brother joined so yea, it was about that time.
I take breaks too, but I schedule them? 4hrs in is 15 mins, just about another 4 I grab a 30, then once more I grab a short 5-10 minutes break and walk around kick the tires and take a leak. It keeps me from getting cramped up and sleepy, and hopefully I won't get a bladder problem!
