My story about working for Gordon trucking.
It's a bit hard typing for me sorry..

I will tell how i got hurt and my career as a truck driver is over because of greedy Trucking companies like Gordon.
Gonna make a long story short for y'all..
I picked up a truck at GTI terminal in IN
Dirty, not even a PM was done on this truck, just told to get in and drive..
I had a load to CA
I told my DM the brakes don't seem right and wanted to get the truck checked, told them this about 3 times.
I looked at the brakes myself and they seemed ok.
but i still wanted to get them checked.
    I was told no!!
I was told to get the load to CA then after that they would do a PM on the truck.
they told me the truck was checked about a month before and had no promblems so drive it.
I was worried that something was wrong so i told the DM this again, he got upset and told me if i didn't want to drive the truck to find the nearest truck stop and park the truck.
I was told then to clean out my stuff and find my own way home.
I was also told for doing this they will put a Abandonment record on my DAC report.
so i didn't have a way to get home (over 2000 miles away) I drove the truck.
well coming down a 7 mile at 6% grade hill the brakes started giving out,
brakes caught fire but i got the truck to stop.
back end of the trailer was on fire plus the doors,
I got under the trailer to put the fire out, I inhaled a lot of smoke.
ended up falling on the ground.
by the time i got to the hospital my oxygen level was 71.

the Dr told me in another 15 mins i would have died.

3 days on oxygen i needed. right hand swallon, arm elbow shoulder torn up.

knee tears. lots of pain. It took 7 days for Gordon to get me home,

I was called by a DM from Gordon and told not to talk or report them to DOT.

If i did they would fire me and cancel my worker comp payments for reporting them to the DOT.

I've been on WC for almost one year now, Gordon fights treatment all the way to keep cost down.

I've been sitting here at home with no treatment for my hand, elbow, shoulder problems for almost 4 months.

I've had it with Gordon!! now I will go after them in court, I will get the DOT involved in this now.

But if you want to drive for Gordon, just beware that they will stab the drivers in the back if you get hurt!!

It's not worth it people, My life is destroyed forever because of Gordon..

More to come on this at a later time.

First sorry about what happened to you.
But how fast were you coming down this grade, How much weight were you grossing and what about the engine brake. Was it working.
Not being rude, but coming down a pass too fast, you can get yourself
jammed up in a hurry fast. That's not the companies fault.. That's on you
Wish the best for you in your health

    Roberts450 and CrappieJunkie Thank this.

I have a 100% perfect record. no nothing!!
Jake on my truck sucked big time,
I told the DM about it and he told me after the load i could get the truck checked out.
I was going the slowest i could.
as for the weight, can't remember but was heavy..
I'm just telling people to beware of GTI.
if you get hurt they will stab ya in the back..

Have to admit those were my first thoughts. How heavy? How fast? What gear? Jake? Johnson bar?

    @Trucker145

This is how it "should" have gone.

You: I don't feel these breaks are right and I'm not comfortable driving this truck.
DM: Drive the truck and deliver the load!
You: Sir, I don't think it's safe to drive this truck. I'd like the breaks checked before driving it.
DM: Drive it or Park it at a truck stop and find a way home. We'll put abandonment on your DAC.
You: Ok, I'll park it at the first truck stop there is. I'll then call the local DOT and have them come check the truck and breaks. I'll fill them in on our conversation, your demands and threats as well as my situation getting home.

YOU are the boss of that truck. Only YOU can say if it moves or not. You have to think not only about you, the truck and cargo, but everyone else out there on the road for their safety as well. Had you done this then yes, maybe you would have had to find a way home but all the damage and injury could have been avoided. If they reported anything on your DAC you could have fought that at a later time. But you would have kept yourself and everyone else out there SAFE!

I hope you heal quickly and prevail on what ever steps you take next. God Bless

I should have told them to sick it, but i needed the job.
and putting a abandonment on your DAC would have ended my career for sure.
truck was in for a PM a month before they said.not to sure on that now.
seems to me that the bottom line is what gordon thinks about, not the drivers..
bad mistake ended my truck driving days.
hope someone learns from my mistake by not trusting gordon..

    One thing must be noted...
This is Heartland and not Gordon....

I was with Gordon for 5 years until Heartland bought them over 3 years ago..

    This is typical Heartland behavior...

Since you are familiar with this site you should have heeded all the warning I and others have given about this company...

    Just sayin'

    Zonno Thanks this.

I will never understand why drivers are so hesitant to tell a company puke to go #### himself.

Most "DMs" are lightly educated clowns. They aren't special. In fact, if they were not DMs, most couldn't hold down an Assistant Manager job at the local McDonalds.

Don't ever let one of these pieces of crap intimidate, threaten or even talk down to you again. The worst that can happen is you get fired. BFD. You can get on the iPad and have another job in less than an hour.

I wish you a speedy recovery.
