Actually 8.34, not to really split hairs. Wow, my degree in Fire Science finally comes in handy for something.

I wasn't with Roehl when I got ticketed at the Maryland Scale. I had very poor training from another company and had never been taught about the 45' or 48' marks. In the three years since my experience I have learned a lot. I doubt the situation in that area is much better now. One thing I have learned also is that it is easier to move weight backwards than forward.

Looks like I'll be going to orientation 7/20 in Ellenwood ..... what I can see from these posts is try to maintain a positive attitude and OBSERVE and ask questions ....... I am graduating around the top of my class so I think I'll be good at picking up the points my trainer is trying to emphasize ...... I'll keep y'all posted ....

Why are you guys taking up for Roel? You know they are crooks just like all the rest of the companys out there, there is no reason why that man doesn't deserve his last paycheck. Are you guys really that brainwashed? No wonder us truckers have such a hard time. Please tell me why this man cant quit his job anytime he wants to?

I am a former Roehl driver. I went through Driver Finishing with them. The skills and training I got when I was with them I still utilize everyday. They gave me solid foundation to build on. Because of their solid training, I have taken the step into O/O.
However, the 2 years I spent with them were some of the hardest I have experienced in my life. At the end of 2 years, I had to leave due to family obligations. When I asked for a rehire I was turned down because my idle time was out of compliancy!! Clean drive record, never a service failure, and no accidents but still they would not rehire me. Really pissed me off at the time but their loss. Actually I have done better by not going back to them as a lease owner operator which was my plan.

Roehl has change in the last year and a half. I still stay in touch with friends who still drive for them. Their upper management is ex-military. As such they do operate in that mentality. They have trimmed the fleet and gotten rid of "waste" as they term it. Such is the tone of the entire industry. If you can work in a military mentality then you will do fairly well with them. If you don't fit into OTR life then it isn't going to matter what company you are with.

You want a good foundation to build a good driving career I would still say Go Roehl. You may or may not get a good trainer and that is the throw of the dice. Put in your 2 years and then move on to bigger and better things. Believe me I have never had a problem getting another driving job with Roehl on my job history.

All you have to do is disagree with them and tick them off, they will fire you. Then you won't have such a good time trying to get on with another company. But you are right, they have changed a great deal in the last two years. I will still say their Roehl Driver Training Center was very good and the instructors were great.
