A few years ago Mass State Police brought up the chains on accessory equipment being added to the WLL. They argued it should not be added, CVSA said nothing in the regulation says the WLL shouldn't be added to the aggregate. It was Issue No. 10-034-VEH if you want to look it up and read about it. I know it has been brought up many other times.
Will someone giving you an inspection know that? Maybe. They should, since it's listed under "Inspection Guidance" in the policy that explains the 7 levels of CVSA inspections.
A few years ago chains over dozer blades was brought up, they agreed that a chain was required. They talked about changing the regulation to clarify the situation, I'm pretty sure that was 2010 and I haven't seen a change.truckdad Thanks this. -

Who here has loaded an excavator on a tilt deck?
Is it safe to rotate the machine on the trailer after loading so the boom points toward the back, or do you have to drive it up on there backwards?PeteyFixAll and truckdad Thank this. -
Does everyone carry conduit to feed the chains through these? What other tricks are there to secure them?
I've always had metal conduit at the shippers to load. This was at a solar farm, I had to bobtail into town for a pieceMJ1657 Thanks this. -

@Hurst
I know a guy that has a '96 & a '99 379 he's talking about selling. Not sure what he wants for them but could get all the specifics for you if you'd like.
But in regards to your statement that old 379's are high priced, you would be correct. With the oncoming ELD regulation & the fact that 99 or older will be exempted, the market price has gone up on those strictly for that reason. I'm thinking he is probably in the 20-25k range price wise on his.Hurst Thanks this. -
@truckdad
Here are some pics of my bed
Here is a close up of a patch that makes loading up a steel wheel roller squirly at times.
I just happened to load a roller so I took a video of it for you.
