How much was your first flatbed

1st and only trailer so far. Looking to replace it within the next 2 - 3 yrs for something similar,. but needs to be a bit lighter in weight.

2013 Fontaine Infinity, 53x102 step. 10ft upper, 43ft lower. HD Ramps kit with 4 load leveler stakes. Also has chain pockets.

Bought it off my carrier for $33k, was 1 yr old. Been a good trailer so far.

Not with out its issues. Put new drums and shoes on it last year. About 4 months ago I had the brake shoes completely fall out of a drum. Crawled under during a pre-trip and noticed an empty brake drum on the wheel. No idea where it went. Just pray no one was behind me when they went.

The air chamber that releases the pins for the rear sliding axle froze up on me from lack of use.

Screw heads for the deck plates are breaking off at the ends of the trailer.

Recently made the mistake of allowing someone load a heavy track machine up my ramps who got scared when he got to the top where it started to tilt. Stopped,.. then started inching left and right with the tracks. I was watching the rear deck plate flex like a yoga instructor. Before I could get him to stop,.. the whole rear deck plate fell to the ground with the machine on top of it. Broke a stand and bent 2 ramps. Trailer has been down for over a month now. Finally getting it back tomorrow. Had some reinforcements done to the new rear plate. Should be a lot stronger now.

My first flat was a 94 Fontaine combo.
Had just been sandblasted and painted up real pretty.
Paid $4000 for it on an auction. Still have it but it's demoted to round bale and firewood duty.

 

03 wasn't that long ago and I can't ever remember 102" be a luxury. They've been 102" wide as long as I've been trucking.

 

40 ft freuhauf sliding tandem. With a welded on bulkhead that probably weighed as much as the trailer! Hauled alot of bootleg loads with her.

 

My first and only is a 08 fontaine combo 48x102 air ride bought it last year paid 16,500.

 

My 1st was a 97 Utility 48x102 I bought from the guy I was leased to, paid $5,000 for it, was only 1 of 3 102" wide combos, all of his other combo trailers were 96" wide & I did NOT want a 96" because a lot of the freight we hauled, on a 96" it was exactly as wide as the trailer, so could not run straps inside the rail.
I ran that trailer maybe a good 9-11 months until I picked up one of our customer loads (aluminum sheets) & I noticed right in front of the front axle the frame was cracked!!! Got it plated & welded just to get me home, took a closer look & LO & BEHOLD almost all of the crossmembers in the "belly" area were cracked or breaking!! Soon after I sold it for exactly what I paid for it & went bought a brand new 2006 Transcraft Eagle off the lot!!
Should have just gone new from the start!!

 

Paid 14k in 2011 for a 2007 Fontaine combo step. Trailer came with chains, straps tarps, ramps, enclosed headache rack and anything else you could need.

My 1st and only is my 2014 Reitnouer "Big Bubba" 48x102 that I bought last year.... Been a real nice trailer.... Has front lift axle and California airline hookups!!
