If it's a controlled drug I'm 99% sure.... Yes. Only the Medical Card is gonna cover you when you test positive for a substance... Just a doctors note isn't gonna go to far Id imagine
Adderall.......

Although now that I think about it I'm not sure if they actually write the exemptions on the Medical Card..... If so yes new card... If not I wouldn't worry about it. That would cause a gray area because most companies want a copy of the med card...

They wanted to put my son on it years ago, so I tried it before we gave it to him. One dose had me up all night and the next day, like the earlier post stated I was grinding my teeth and felt goofy.
I really don't want to be on the road with a guy taking this.
We never let my son take it and gave the script back to the doctor.tucker, scottied67, LumbraX and 1 other person Thank this. -
Whenever u take a DOT piss test, they ask if ur on any meds. Also they ask ur phone number so the lab can call u and ask about meds ur on before reporting a positive test to ur employer.
Call ur company safety Dept they should help u. It's kinda their job, besides telling u they can't edit ur logs lol -
That's why it's important to leave the company out. I believe it's more of a insurance liability when someone's taking a controlled drug, OTR especially, and in trucking might not be able to make it home to get a refill. With Adderal from years and years of first hand knowledge. The withdrawal is horrible and very dangerous. Not to mention.. Adderal is already a widely abused drug and a huge problem. -
Also, the DOT nurse doesn't ask me about current meds, so do yourself a favor and do not put your foot in your mouth. I did this years ago and was placed on probation and given a 1yr DOT med card. Just keep your mouth closed, take the drug screen, and be prepared to receive a phone call from a DOT doctor. Give him/her the info they ask you for and nothing more. Done deal.
Finally, your DOT med card will not reflect any meds. Everything is normal, it may just have a shorter shelf life than the standard 2yrs.
Lastly, do not share any med info with your employer. Just handle the situation through the DOT doctor.
Goodluck and please be safe.LumbraX Thanks this. -
No they don't. In fact, if you start volunteering info up they are supposed to immediately stop you. The person administering the DOT drug screen is only a collector of the samples. Nothing more. They're trained the proper procedure to collect, mark, store and then ship the samples to an off site 3rd party lab.
If there's a problem the lab will call you (at the number you provided) and ask for any prescriptions. -
It also depends on the the MRO. My doc put me on clonazepam, it's a benzo. I carry a note from him that it does not affect my abilities in any way. But anyhow I went for my next Dot physical wrote down the name and amount I was taking. The doc asked me a couple of question about it and said here you go, good for another 2 yrs
LumbraX Thanks this. -
Yes I went to my dr today he wrote a note stating my name medication and that it will not adversely affect my driving in anyway. I keep the note with me I'll take my prescription bottle and I should be ok? I'm not abusing them I take half my prescribed dose just trying to do the right thing.

I'm surprised you're not having more trouble through this.
The ##### doctor I went to for my first ever DOT medical only gave me a one year and wrote in the comments box it was because I had a prescription for Adderall back when I was in high school! I had to get a doctors note from the prescribing Doctor and the whole 9 yards for her to approve my physical.
I learned to keep my mouth shut after that. Any prescriptions? "None, never"
I used to say "Only Adderall about 5 years ago nothing since"
Who knew you weren't supposed to tell doctors everything?
