I've had absolutely no trouble. It's a prescribed medication and as my dr put it, it's similar to meth but on a test it shows as a different amphetamine than meth since they are different....I'm just covering my ### by documenting everything and taking under my dose.

I think my problem came from the carrier more than DOT regulations.
Legally you can take anything with a doctors note, company's like to extend their reach a little further.

You will ABSOLUTELY, positively, without a doubt, run into trouble with adderal. Not saying I agree with it, but eventually, it will be a problem. It's one of those medications that is easily abused (unless you're on the time released capsules) and that's all the companies dr's care about.

If your current company is ok with it (along with the dr's note of course) be grateful. That's rare. Most company dr's will not sign off on it.

I would imagine the bigger carriers have to stay away from I because maybe certain medications would increase their liability??

I might run into problems and I might not but the more I have to back up that I'm ok driving and not a hazard the better I'll feel. I made sure to take it regularly a few days before I ever stepped near a truck and after that I was put on short runs close to home just in case. There's a huge difference in a trucker who wants to stay awake for 24 hours straight and one who takes it for medical reasons.

Here's how it actually works. I was taking Adderall when I started with CRE. After I took the drug test the first day of school, the Medical Review Officer called and told me I had tested positive for amphetamines (not meth).

The MRO asked if I was taking any prescriptions. I told him Adderall. He asked me to fax him a copy of the prescription. I did so. The MRO, in turn, reported my drug test as NEGATIVE to CRE.

    End of story.

This is how the regulations state this issue is to be handled. You don't need a new DOT physical, a copy of your medical records, a note from your Mom or anything else.

Under no circumstances should you discuss this issue with your company.

Didn't know you could play it that way. That's good information to know

I'm against EVER, under any circumstances, discussing this type of info with your company, but adderal is one that you're gonna need to get approved by your company. It's not an approved medication at the majority of companies.

It's easy to say that "if you have a prescription for it the company can't do anything" but that's false. Heck, look at medical marijuana. The companies can do what they want as far as medication goes. I don't agree with it, but there's alternatives to adderal. Alternatives that won't show up in a urine sample

A company doesn't get veto power over your medications.

His urine sample on a random will, under DOT regs, not be reported to the company (provided he gets the MRO his prescription when the MRO calls). His test will be reported as Negative. The company will not know.

Marijuana is a completely different animal, as it is specifically prohibited by DOT regs. Adderall is not.
