    Actually, the X chain is really needed. It forces the coil into the cradle, I can't tell you how many times a coil has been laid in the cradle I throw two chains one on each side then the X and the X will actually loosen those two and pull the coil down into the cradle.

    Straps over the top do the same thing. I'm not saying x-chaining is a bad or wrong thing, I just personally don't like to do it.

    Are you saying your first two chains hook in the middle of the trailer instead of the sides?

  8. I agree its suicide,. But still needs more chains at that weight. The diagram was showing weight per chain.

    Being as it's heavy either way.

    Nope, my first 2 chains are very close to what @Riprap posted, only where they are attached would be toward the center of the coil. Looking at that picture, move both ends of the chain closer together. By doing it that way I have to use edge protection on the outside of the coil as well. Then chains 3 and 4 are placed like the picture, and 5 and 6 like what chewy had.
