Some (a handful of) OEM radios have a setup option that sets how strong or weak of a signal a scan will look for. But if you're direct tuning to a known nearby station and you still get nothing then you likely have an antenna problem.

If you have a input jack pick up a cheap satellite radio and never have any problems.
