Abilene Motor Express....A New Place To Call Home

Was up and ready about 0800 or so this morning and at 0820 the qc goes off sending me to east brunswick nj for a live load, currently sitting in the door enjoying some homemade chipotle chicken borrito guts made by the wife. Gotta drop this trailer just down from richmond yard. Gonna check out 301 today. Now just hoping i can make the trip in the 820 i have left to drive.

In other news though since sunday i have burned through 40 hours and been moving 2100 miles per the qc.

 

If you live in Richmond the truck will stay on the yard during your time off

 

I have seen other truckers in other threads here on this forum talk about how US 301 is very often a suitable alternate route for I-95.

 

Well, I did it.... My orientation starts Aug 3rd.

Time to kiss my beautiful mountains good bye and get used to the hot and humid SE and E. I hope they put me with a polar bear of a trainer. Charge up the A/C system in what ever truck I end up in!

 

My first trainer's truck didn't have working AC. Nothing tests your mettle more than laying in the bunk trying to fall asleep while sweat rolls down your forehead into your ears.

Those poor ears would also be ringing at the end of my shift from the 68MPH wind blast coming from the open windows across I-40.

 

After enduring 1 month training in a KW 900 with no A/C to upgrade my B to A. I have no hearing.. Man did the air intakes make noise! The ringing has finally stopped!!! My hearing sucked before that, now it much worse!

 

Just called Abilene to follow up with the application I put in on Sunday night. Got ahold of Reggie. Explained who I was and let him know I was following up. Was basically told that Rusty would call me if/when they wanted to move forward with my application.

Given that I've already put in my notice with my other job (yeah, it was a gamble, so nobody's fault there but mine), I'm a little nervous now. Was hoping to have something a bit more firm than "Don't call us, we'll call you" before my last day at Amazon rolled around.

If you did what we do you'd have no reason to be jealous. Everyday we update John's FM with an eta. Then we live up to it without fail. She knows we'll be there ready for the next run so it's in the works before we get there. She's been simply great and a credit to the company and trucking in general.

Make no mistake, we're killing ourselves out here but ...

I would call again and ask to speak to Rusty directly. As I understand it, Reggie does the orientations, not sure if he has anything to do with recruiting. The previous Orientation guy didn't.
