So drivers report to the HR Department???

    LOL

Glad to see the company get an HR person... Kind of surprised they didn't have one yet but yup, low overhead company.

Sorry, that wasn't a complaint, I didn't mean to come across that way. Just wanted to give a current assessment as to how training is going per my experience. Although it's pretty much team driving, I'm in no way hung out to dry, my trainer seems to keep one eye open from the bunk at all times, lol.

One thing I do need is to go to backing camp, wish that existed.

Yes, they offered it last year, but I'm not sure they offered it to everyone. I turned them down. This year, I might not.

My first trainer was in the bunk snoring 5 hours into my first day of training.

At that point my only previous experience driving a semi was the test I had with Bill the day before and during driving school 20 years prior.

Honestly?, I am not sure. She said she was there for driver issues and disciplinary stuff. Asked if I had any questions and I gave her my favourite one about the detention pay rate and she told me to ask my driver manager.

I was going to ask her who that was but thought better of it.:)

I begged for backing practice also. First trainer told me he was great at backing, but that it was something he did naturally, nor something he could explain or teach. His approach was to let me figure it out on my own as that was the best way to learn.

Second trainer was much more helpful, but I still took the initiative to practice backing when we were waiting for a load at a customer.

You may have to do the same. If you find yourself in an empty truck stop or quiet customer lot with some time.

Let the trainer know you want to practice backing. He shouldn't really object as its not his fuel and tires you will be using.

That too varies from trainer to trainer. I think all backing, at least for us newbies, should be done by the trainee... No matter how long it takes.

You will get better but I would agree about a "backing camp"... Teaching "concepts" of backing before real world practice hits.

Stay Safe and keep the updates coming!!!
