First time for me. But again only been on road a month. And also, I should say, I'm not displeased with my decision to come here. I still like the culture, the overall idea of schneider. I'm not bagging the company. Just a couple people that don't get it. Or don't care. My DBL was a driver. He knows his stuff. Very knowledgeable. I have no big complaints of him.

On to the miles. I'm regional. Longest I've seen is 664. I'd say the majority are 350-400. Again, for regional. Then again I'm based out of Memphis and don't think I've ever been 1k miles away from there lol. I've been up to Wisconsin down to GA and northeast SC or OH (as far northeast as I've been I mean). And west as OK.

Im pretty sure that when I was looking into regional, the recruiter said everything would be within a 750 mile radius so you might not do much better than that. My longest run was 1400 miles one way but I didn't go home that weekend. I really didn't see much difference in miles and money to justify not doing my restart at home. A typical run for me is from our office in Western OH to MA. It's 550 miles from the plant to home then the 200-250 to finish the run after the weekend. So since I live nowhere close to work I grab good miles going to and from home. The problem is that most of our NE loads have two stops. So I get good miles getting to the first one but pretty much waste a day running around CT and MA. I haul food service freight and you all know how slow those places are. Schneider has also put the kibosh on running deadhead back to Ohio so throw a crappy system pickup in there too and it's pretty much a lost day.

You'll get good at utilizing your time to your advantage knowing what areas to hit when, alternate routes, and so on. Even if you get stuck in a low mileage hole like Eastern PA, squeezing out an extra 30 miles today could make all the difference in the world tomorrow.

My saga continues today. Had to shut down early last night for my appt live load this morning. That went well. In and out with out a hitch. Then I deadhead 60 miles to my next assignment. Jill takes me smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood for my destination. "Ummm that's not right" I say as she tells me I arrived. So I hit Google for the address it takes me somewhere else that there is no business at. Or at least the one I'm looking for. I hit the side of the road and call the number. It's for a light bulb place in IN. With no location here in SC. Great. I call the DBLs. They give me the correct number and tell me the business name is something different too. Wow. That's not on them but still a mess. I find it and I'm being loaded now. I guess it's just my week to get this type of stuff. I've got a live unload this morning. A live load this morning and doubtful I can make it early but will have a live unload in the morning. Thinking back I've had about 50/50 live vs D&H. Unlike the 90% D&H that they claimed. It is what it is.....

I went back to my contact. It seems there was a * at the end of that. Then in the fine print it explains "subject to terms and conditions, one year of low level grunt work required. Then you must become IC. Some side effects may include rectal bleeding and #### hemorrhaging." Hmmmm that explains the bleeding at least.

Seriously. What a crappy week. After getting lost my live load took 3 and a half hours. Leaving me with 3hrs left of drive time. Sucks. He had no paperwork for me and no seal. I was in such a hurry at that point I just did my Qualcomm stuff, entered 123456 for the seal and left. I get about an hour away and realize that's why I have schneider seals. Whoops. So then I am behind for the stop I planned earlier I don't want to stop for anything. Barely any traffic makes up some time for me. I get to the pilot and it's full. Not even a paid spot available. I've got 34 min left on clock. I pull up the app truckers path it shows almost full 10 miles away 15 min ago. I haul butt cause I actually am back tracking now. I get there. Nothing. Errrr. I leave there and I saw a vacant building on the way in next door. I'll stay there. 16 min left. I leave go out. Lights green. Turn but there's a median. Have to go past it to turn around. I go about a half a mile and see some trucks parked behind a waffle house. I go there and park. 14 min. Whew. I do my post trip. And log off duty not to violate. About an hour earlier I had gotten a message. Driving can't read it. So I take a look. You're in a high crime area. Don't park or fuel there. If you can make it go to the Atlanta OC. Nice. Thanks for the warning. Good looking out.

Also, if you're driving and go to the home screen, click messages, then click the circle button in the middle of the arrows, the QC will read it to you. The old trucks used to display part of the message on the instrument panel so I could tell from the first sentence if it was important like a work change or just another safety message. I wish they didn't do away with that.

I've been debating about sharing this story that happened to me the other day. I was staying in some backwoods town. Small truck stop. Don't remember where. Somewhere in SC. But I was off duty and decided to grab some food at the diner next door. I hop out the truck. Well, a little back story I guess would fit. I'm 37 years old. Played basketball growing up. Still one of my favorite sports. But I wear baggy clothes and my hat backwards, most times. Just my style. I don't like change I guess. Oh and sandals. So I hop out the truck. And head toward the diner. A truck driver is heading the opposite way. Older man. Heavy set. Not moving particularly fast. Out of breathe he says "what's with you new truck drivers and your sandals." I perk up a bit wondering where this is coming from. He then made a racist comment of the way I dress. I won't repeat. But I said to him "you and me race to that sign over there. We'll see who wins. My sandals or your shoes". He then said "it wasn't about that. They just aren't safe." "Neither is being over weight buddy. You enjoy the rest of your day."
