I had two CC's skimmed at a MCD using their card readers. They went on a nice shopping spree at food stores keeping it all below $70 per transaction... got about $800 over 3 states. In talking to the Police, it was a gang and I was not the only one. We did get them on Video at two gas stations when they tried to make a $380 purchase at 3am and 4am at two different stores. Humm gas station buying $380 worth of stuff at 3am... not a red flag???

Some of them are now internal to the gas pumps. They normally hit the outside pumps where the clerk cannot see. The keys to open are pretty universal and if you use a pump, look for the security seals or wiggle the card reader... if loose, use another pump and tell the clerk.

One other thing I have tied to my cards is verification. If it senses too many purchases in a short amount of time or out of state purchases it will lock my CC and send me an E-Mail. I can either say yes/no to the transaction(s). I had this happen when I used a Taxi last year in Dallas. I live in NC. He swiped the card and before I could get my foot out of the door I got a verification E-Mail in regards to that transaction.
