The way I have mine the "ratchet" is horizontal, like they are on the ones that hang umderneath. If I clamped them to the bottom flange the "ratchet" would be straight up and down. I don't know. The way they are, work, but look funny.

You should secure the winch with a bungee to the rail. That way if the strap loosens or gets cut the winch stays put.

I'm not sure I understand. There are two 1/2" bolts to secure them. You would still use a bungee as backup?

Ok. I'll throw throw two more bungees. Thanks

I don't know if I really understand this either. This is the second type of shed I've moved. My straps on the drivers side, in the winches, are nice and tight. However the RH side of the same straps are looser. So both times I just threw two more straps from the LH side and kept the ratchets on the RH side.

I don't know if I'm explaining it ok. If I have two winches/straps tight on the LH side, and throw two more to be tight on the RH side, in my opinion I'm ok to roll.

I don't care that im over securing. The time to throw two more is negligible. I've noticed it on other loads too. The side with the winch is always tighter than the non-winch side

Yep it's all about friction, you'll notice that sometimes. Chains do it too particularly if they're pulling over something where the links kinda "catch", I have put a binder on the other side just for peace of mind.

A lot of flatbed work is common sense, and physics. I don't know much about physics.

I just want what's on the deck, to stay on the deck. Properly.

    DD,

I believe what Jumbo and JD are saying, is if the winch bolts were loose and in the event that the 4" strap developed slack at some point, the winch tecnally could just fall off. Obviously if the 4" strap is tight its, all good.

I think hes referring to an event where a void is created, the bungee straps would atleast hold the winch to the trailer so its not laying on someone's windshield.

    DDlighttruck Thanks this.
