Yeah turn the heat to it in rainy weather and watch that windshield up on the inside. And would have thought the defroster works by blowing air on the windshild

Hell, I don't consider myself "old", but we didn't have A/C in the house I grew up in. Wasn't until we moved summer before middle school that we had that "luxury".

No such rule exists. REQUIRED equipment must work. Extra stuff NOT required does NOT have to work. Even with your lights. You can have 1,000,000 chicken lights on your truck and 3/4 of them can be burned out...but as long as the REQUIRED handful of lights are working, there ain't a darn thing the DOT can do about the 750,000 burned out auxiliary lights.

AC didn't work when I bought my truck. You know what I did? I pulled the compressor, condenser, dryer, lines, brackets, and everything else AC related out and pitched it. Dropped 40 pounds off my tare weight. That was 800,000 miles ago, and I've been all over the mid-south...try not to go too far north of 64 if I can help it, and will head South any day of the year in any weather. My first solo trip to Laredo many moons ago as a company driver, it was well over 100 degrees in South Texas, and even though the AC worked, I wasn't using it...had the windows open enjoying the fresh air. Hell, I went 8 or 9 years without even running the AC at the house! Then the wife moved in and she turns the stupid thing on in May...ridiculous.

AC is a luxury item...completely unnecessary for a healthy individual.

    Agreed.

Oh sure. Not a safety concern at all.

....Until it rains, the humidity goes up 30 points, and you can't keep the windows clear because they're fogging up. :biggrin_25511:

DOT and shops seem to thrive on the old fallacy that "everything has to work." We had a truck fail a CVI because a light inside a cabinet was burned out.

Yeah it shouldn't a big deal but I know there are some companies that won't fix their equipment as long as that equipment is rolling
.... I understand some drivers just have to stomach it, I've worked for a few companies like this myself

    "Luxury" my ###. :biggrin_25511:

It's not a "luxury" to be able to keep the humidity down in one's cab so they can keen their windows fog free and avoid hitting the idiot crawling along through the thunderstorm without his lights on.

    It's not always about "comfort".

800,000 miles in this truck with no AC and I have yet to have my windows fog up in the rain or any other time, so I don't buy that line you're trying to feed me.

You don't have to. I've seen it happen when my own a/c was on the fritz.

I drive a truck now with no AC and my windows fog up to the point of not being able to see when it's raining hard with how humid it is out
