Me personally, it would be hard for me to give back a truck after 3 years. This might be a smart move for SNI.

I agree, but if you offer a brand new truck for zero down or a used truck with a few thousand dollar down payment, most would take the zero down. Let's face it, a lot of people don't really care about holding up to their end of a contract, and if they don't do well, will hand a brand new truck back after a few months if the program isn't what they expected...now Schneider is stuck having to offer a truck with almost no mileage and less than a year old as a used truck, with no down payment to hold against them.

Don't confuse the lease with SFI and running with Schneider. If you really want to own your own truck sign a 3 year. You can take that truck almost anywhere SFI wants you to run for Schneider..think of this you do a 1 year turn in truck lost 30 plus grand in payments.

I think the 1 year is a better situation. @TransplantBadger was talking about terms for a brand new truck. He could lease the brand new truck for 1 year if he paid 4K down, or 3 years for zero down. Used trucks were all zero down and various lease lengths.

Back to the 1 year though. Given the risk of emission trucks, if I were to fall into the trap of a lease purchase again, it would be a one year lease on a used truck, preferably with 100k or more miles on it. Why? Because that would mean somebody else too the initial risk on the truck, and you would have 100k miles worth of repair history to research to see what you were getting into with the truck. The bonus? Somebody else paid down the balance of the truck significantly.

That said, I hope to never be faced with a lease purchase again.

I think that's why they're offering long leases, even on 16s with 100k plus on them.

Your payments don't stop, so while your emissions problems have your truck in the shop, you may very well go backwards a bit, but after a longer leasee you can still come out ahead.

    Walmart called. Just this afternoon.

Arguable the best job in the industry right now.

If that doesn't work, I'm really leaning toward brand new in the 3 year, then evaluate, and perhaps a buy down, or extend the lease.

I did bump my start date back though, and I sensed a bit of frustration, but I gotta do what's good for me.

They said my app is good for 6 months though and contact them again in mid September as truck inventory will change by then.

The feeling I get from those board points to NOT doing a long lease, but honestly...look at what Schneider has been through, and still been a successful company, dominant industrywide forever.

I've been doing this long enough to remember Schneider Specialized.

I have no problems hauling short haul freight, or long, or mid range, I already have an idea what area I want to run. Thanks to @RootHog and @freightwipper for that, and even though it's very intimidating, I think good things about the Schneider lease.

In 21 years trucking, I know I can overcome most things.

I may scream and whine and give myself a heart attack...but hey..m they got medicine for that...
