Hey guys I'm a new truck driver and I need some info on what trucker GPS's are the best ones for the road. I have seen some on Amazon but they are priced very high and not enough reason reviews on them. Thanks. Be safe out there!

I use SmartTruckRoute app on my phone. In my experience, it's more accurate than the traditional truck GPSs. It's powered by Google Maps, so you can set it for satellite view and it even let's you know when the truck entrance doesn't match the physical address and how to get in in most cases. It runs like $100 for a 3 year subscription and is well worth it in my opinion.

I usually buy mine on eBay either used or refurbished. As far as a trucker GPS, in my opinion as well as most of my trucking friends, the Rand McNally 520 or 720 is the best trucker GPS. I went with a 7 inch first, it is really a big screen, "I went back to the 5 inch!
I think I paid $125.00 for one used awhile back, it would have been double that in a truck stop!

    I agree with Jack.
Go get the Rand McNally 520 or the 720.
I have the 720, and as far as trucker GPS's they are far better than the competition.
Also, I use google for street view, and to confirm the route and destination are accurate.

I've had a 5, 7, and now 8" tablet from rand McNally. Their customer service sucks but such as life.

I've seen new 500 Rand Mcnallys at Pilots for $210.

You do not need the wifi version- the wifi version ads nothing practical to the system and costs $80-100 more. I kick myself for paying more for the wifi function, everyday.

Also, the RM is NOT perfect. It has a terribly slow processor. Even with "no u-turns" in the settings, miss a turn and it will scream "make a u-turn, if possible," for miles after the missed stop. You'll have to use your best judgement and go around the block, more often than not.

I use RM in conjunction with google maps to find places. Google maps seems more up to date on construction detours and it will put you at the actual bldg you're looking for.

RM routinely "arrives" me at the bldg next to my destination. Also, use your phone to call ahead just in case the truck entrance is hidden (50% of the time for me).

RM is a good investment but it's just one of several tools you'll need to use together to safely get to places. The best tool is between your shoulders.

The newer RM's have a much faster processor. I have a 730, works very quick compared to the old 510 I had, and better even than the 720

I do not buy something based on price. I buy for value. There are those who love their Rand's and other who like their Co Pilots. I have never used Rand's. I use Garmin. I have always used Garmin. Now I have a 760 and a 770. I run them both. Two screens gives me more data. But not needed. I also have a spare 770. Best time to buy them is at a truck stop just after Christmas. Lots of units are given as gifts and they are for sale cheap from truckers after Christmas.
