I'm sorry, I got this engine crossed up with a different engine from another thread. I thought I was answering that one and wondering where my answer went when they said they never got it. My bad... I apologize about that. I got in a hurry and didn't verify I was on the right thread.
CATs have the solid seal. You need the proper tool to change it out.
Tell me the tools/info to replace the front crankshaft seal on '94 3406E...

This is the CAT tool you need to wind in the seal. It's the same for the front and rear seals. It winds it in to a predetermined depth. I borrowed one from a CAT dealer, they are expensive to buy. This is on a 3408 engine but it is the same tool for 3406/C15 as they use the same seal. Make sure you get the very latest seal as there are about three different types.
To get the old one out you have to drill some small holes in it and use a slide hammer, CAT make a special slide hammer.

Ive always said if i ever win the lottery id become a hobby trucker . Id have a 3408E cat under the hood with air to air on it.
Just truck on sunny days just to listen to the the pipes..!! Love those 3408s.

Over here in Oz we are one stage behind you in emissions requirements on new trucks, we don't get your emissions until 2019 I think it is.
We can run older engines as long as they are proven to be roadworthy, a bit like Canada I think.snowman_w900 and charlie1403 Thank this.
