tnd 730, new as of Thursday. I have owned several models of these over the years so I'm not new to them. my question is: did RM reduce the volume of the speaker by 50%? I can barely hear that it said anything most of the time and when I do hear it, its not loud enough to understand it. Out of the 5 volume bars, the first 3 do virtually nothing, and the last 2 start to get loud enough to hear in a perfectly quite area. Running my old unit and the new unit side by side and the old one is at least twice as loud. I tried resetting the unit and then a diagnostic repair with no change. any help would much appreciated, kind of useless the way it is :-(

The speaker is hardware.. resetting and doing a diagnostic does nothing. That would be like shutting your truck off and then turning back on to fix a flat.

Contact RM Customer Support if still in warranty.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Just bought the rand mcnally 70 tablet I had the Garmin 770 before and I can connect it to my phones blue tooth for traffic updates and such. Do you have to update this 70 tablet before it will let you connect your phones Bluetooth for Internet usage

Thanks Mark, I will contact them Monday, when they are available. I realize the speaker itself is hardware, as I'm sure you realize it is controlled by software. The speaker does work, just at a reduced volume from other models I have used. On the weekend, updating software was something I could do on my own, to see if they updated the way the speaker is controlled. Then I could also ask other users: if they experienced reduced volume on this newer unit. If so, was there a fix I could do, or is this just not the gps for me. I'm going to infer that you believe it is not normal, it is not something I can fix, and I will have to start the warranty process on my 2 day old unit. Gotta be honest, I was really optimistic that with each model they were making them better, not a great start. (the reset button, should be bright red and easy to push, instead of on the back requiring a pen)

On that tablet - use WiFi for free traffic, weather, fuel prices, internet, apps, updates. Not Bluetooth. Turn on WiFi hotspot on your phone or Mifi or Jetpack, etc. Then connect the tablet to that hotspot.

I'll tell you what the Bluetooth is good for though - wireless connect to an external speaker. Hear the GPS much louder, or watch movies / YouTube in richer stereo shewn you're not driving, etc.

More a firmware OS type of function. If only a few days old where did you buy? If truckstop usually you have a 2 week grace period to exchange.

    Thanks,
    Mark

My old gps the Garmin 770 used bluetooth for data and in my phone settings it says the same for this tndt70 enable bluetooth for the Internet.

Unfortunately I am on the att unlimited plan which doesn't allow for Hotspot or tethering so I believe it is causing the error and for it not to connect.

Interesting... Have not heard of this till this. I do not know if it will work or not on BT. I can try on my phone, but I really suspect the Wi-Fi has to be enabled to get internet.

Update... In researching this, this was the older method of connecting before Wi-Fi Hotspots.

Once you have paired to the tablet, on your phone look in the Blue Tooth menu and see if you have an option to Connect to Network.

    Thanks,
    Mark
