Wire cutters/strippers, cheap crimp connectors, and electrical tape. Never know when you'll get an awesome trailer with the lighting pigtail just dangling in the breeze and need to quick fix it to avoid getting pulled over at night.

Don't listen to these guys about not wearing your vest.
    Chics dig the vest.
Hat & boots are not optional. Unless you join us on the dark side, and join the White Volvo Mafia.
Then sweatpants, preferably with a logo in large letters on the leg, and aesics or Adidas track shoes are required.

The obvious stuff should be pretty obvious, so here's my list of not-so-obvious ones:
    • a bottle of dish soap, preferably Dawn. Add it to the squeegee water to get bugs off.
    • cheap leather gloves, get a 10 pack from Horror Fright. great for fueling.
    • polarized sunglasses. I like the cheap $5 fishing glasses from mall-wart.
    • pens. in bulk. Pilot G2 0.7mm is hands down my favorite.
    • really exceptionally good antiperspirant. you WILL need this. trust me.
    • something to deal with fromunda cheese. adult wipes, monkey butt powder, or "Fresh Balls The Solution For Men." yes, that really is a thing and it really does what it says. as much as you might want to or indeed need to, you won't be able to get a shower every day out here, plus you're sitting on your butt for like 10 hours a day. it gets funky under there, and quick.
    • a dashcam. I have one from Rexing and it works really well, ymmv of course. drivers are f'n nuts anymore, and since everything is automatically the trucker's fault you need to cover your assets.
Other advice to those starting out: never, ever buy anything at truck stops. Hit a wal-mart, they're like half the price and most still let you park a truck there at least long enough to go shopping. don't trust your GPS even half as far as you can throw it; learn to run just with an atlas. when your GPS dies or tries to route you by way of Uzbekistan, you'll have no problem rerouting yourself. especially don't trust google maps directions or a car GPS, you WILL end up stuck under a bridge or something.

Finally, don't be afraid to ask! Granted, the industry has gone pretty downhill lately, but there are still a lot of good folks driving around out here and I for one am happy to help mentor the next bunch. I have no problem helping a two week old Swift hatchling slide his tandems.

Is there a trucker friendly online store I should be giving my business to? Or just walmart it? They actually seem pretty trucker friendly, from the trucks I see parked at the lot in lacey, to the apparently great pay they offer their drivers.

For starters, just Wal-Mart it. When you solo-out, let us know what you may need, ie: fridge, cookware, etc.... there are better places to get stuff like that online, ie: BBQguys.com ~
    Best of luck, man!!!!!

    Spyke Thanks this.
