How do I deal with rude shippers / customers

Grocery warehouses don't discriminate; they are hateful to everyone.
When I pulled reefers, one of the drivers overheard a receiver dock worker telling a new employee,"You can say anything you want to truckers and they can't do anything about it; watch this!" He got smart with my friend, the trucker, and immediately my friend snatched him inside the trailer and gave him a good old whooping. The grocery worker was too scared to report it, so nothing happened.

 

That's a tough one. Maybe call them out on it just say "what you got against me man? Why you always making my day more difficult than it needs to be? I'm doing my best here."
See what he says. Is it one particular place or is it all over? At such a large company you could ask to be put on a different area of the country. Assuming you are long haul. If local and the pay is decent, get enough experience and move to another local outfit, if you plan to stay local.

 

Has NOTHING to do with race. Your age might have a little to do with it, but honestly, it's just because they're miserable and hate their lives. Get used to it.

Just keep in mind you only have to deal with them very briefly, then you get to leave. They're stuck with their miserable selves forever. Say "F you" in your head as you smile and say out loud "thanks, have a great day"

 

Welcome to trucking. Skin color has nothing to do with shippers and receivers being rude. Sometimes it may be another driver that put them in this mood. Drivers get there early thinking its a drop and hook, and it turns out to be a live load, or driver shows up with wrong pick up number, and takes it out on the shipping/ receiving clerk. The best advice is to just stay calm and walk away. Being rude with a shipping or receiving clerk can make your day pure hell

I don't have to deal with this a lot because I run LTL furniture and deliver to mostly stores or small warehouses so most of the people are very nice and happy to get the stuff they ordered. Most of my backhauls are furniture right back to our terminal. But a couple of weeks ago I had to take a couple days off at the end of a week so I didn't get to get in my 2nd furniture trip for the week. As I was talking to dispatch a backhaul came in that needed to be delivered an hour away at a grocery warehouse at 5 am on one of the days I needed off. I told them I would do it since I would be back in time to do what I needed to do. Anyway, I get there and the guys are just rude. Starting at the guard shack. I bit my tounge cause I'm professional. But as I was leaving the guy smarted something off at me. I looked at him and said "man I sure appreciate you being so nice while I been here". That guy couldn't say one word. Turned and went back inside his little shack. Made me feel good that I made him realize he was being a jerk, and I wasn't rude so it couldn't affect my job or my family.
A lot of days I bite my tounge for my wife and kid. After all, they are there reason I drive a truck.
Oh and btw, it ain't skin color at all. They don't care if you are purple lol

 

Rudeness is widespread among shippers and receivers.

Finish your year, and then find a job like LTL line haul, or terminal to terminal runs. It at least takes away that crappy part of trucking.

 

Make a video of rude shipper, then post so thousands can laugh at him. Lol
