To the OP, I would just realize that their lives are what you see, stuck in a place where they hate to come to work and can't wait to get out. They project onto others their hatred of the job and disappointment with their lives to make everyone feel miserable so they feel normal. While you get to leave that place, they are stuck.

I have a regular stop to make for a customer every Friday, these guys will screw me over every chance they get because they are miserable sobs and hate their jobs so much that they can't help but be dummies. I got used to them, don't let them bother me and think to myself how lucky I can just drive away and go somewhere else that have people who are happy or at lease like their jobs.

Unless they come out and say it is about race, don't think that

    Good post, Mr Lepton.
@Xzay, have you ever gone to a bar or a party, walk in, ready to chill and relax...and suddenly feel someone watching you? You look across the room and you see him. He's looking at you. Suddenly, he's trying to act hard, chest all out and whatnot. All night, you two give mean glances at each other. "If anything goes down, that's who I am going to fight."

When you walk into a room, or a restaurant, or a shipper, it's the same thing. It's like playing poker. They see you coming.

"What is it that they see coming, Six?"

The young, black kid (their words, not mine) with BUTTONS ready to be pushed. "Wow! He has buttons! Lots of them! I bet I can push his buttons and piss him off!" Why do they try to use your buttons, friend?
Because they're there to be pushed.

You can't do anything about racism just as you can't do anything about your race. You know that and they know that. I will wager money too that they treat the majority of black guys decently. That doesn't mean that they're not mistreating you because you're black, it's because you're young, black with buttons. If any one of the 3 components were missing, they wouldn't bother you.
It's like playing poker. They're betting that they know what hand you're dealing with and when you get ticked, they know they pushed your buttons.

So what can you do differently? Enhance your cool. A cool person is button free. The cool head prevails. I'm not saying let people walk over you or slap you around. Just don't be so quick to get heated and upset and allow fools to ruin your day. Sound like a plan?

    Luck in battle.

I used to get upset. Then I started looking at some of the truckers at truck stops. Not all, some. You know the ones. The ones you don't want to be within 50 feet of...

Then every time there's someone that's treating me like ####, I just realize that one of those drivers either was along or will be along to ruin their day. And then I'm good.

We got a few of them at my shop. My opinion is if you dont like your job, quit. No need to be a jack hole. But what ya gonna do? Nothin. It like Henry rollins says, someone trys to hand you a pile of horse ####, you dont have to take it. Just laugh and walk away. Dudes got issues, glad i dont work here. Hell play games with it, "what do you have driver?" A years worth of Friday's off and all the beer you can drink. They wont know what to say, :) i always tell em they are the ones paying me, ill do whatever. They ask "what do you mean? Im not paying you." Well your bosses are, and there the ones who pay my detention, dont bother me either way.

We need to get rid of the color distinction and the hyphenated distinction in this country. You are either an American or you are not. Period. My dad came here in 1957 from Austria but I don't go around saying I am an Austrian-American or German-American. I am an American period. As long as everyone keeps making distinctions based on color or country of origin there will always be division and racism in this country. Hell, most folks, black or white or brown or green or yellow or red or purple could not find the country of their ancestral origin on a map if it was the only one listed.

Now I will tell you a funny story...

I worked with a guy in Houston for 3 years who's grandparents came from Mexico. One day we got into this hyphenated name conversation and HE stated how stupid it was. He said we are all Americans and should not hyphenate. Then he got on to Hispanic. He said that was not even a real word and he did not know what a hiss was.

Well a couple of days go buy and it comes to me so I call him.

Me; Hey Ricardo I figured out what Hispanic means....

    Him; Yeah, what is is?

Me; It means you are a hick Spaniard.

Him; Laughing so hard he had to call me back...

I'm late to the party as always but lotsa good posts here .
In my younger days I didn't have the ability to shut up and have been banned from a couple grocery houses and a truck stop and they are gone now and I'm still here lol.
I used to do hunts point meat market , wakefern foods and c@s grocers weekly and believe me you are just another driver to them and they couldn't care less about what color you are .
As time went by my hunts point people got almost friendly , wakefern probably would have been concerned if I dropped dead on the dock , but c@s wouldn't have been worried until the smell got to bad . Lol

    cnsper and Lepton1 Thank this.
