Father in law lives in Knoxville, loves it there. He has a freind that owns a place where he has built / rebuilt trucks, but mostly sold used parts I guess for quite a number of years, looking at retiring but still going.

Low insurance costs and no state income tax is a big reason a lot of people are moving to TN. Add in excellent gun laws and it's a good place to liveiledbett, Rocks, fordconvert and 7 others Thank this. -
As for TN, low cost of living (including no income tax -- now including capital gains), beautiful country, the ability to drive my truck in state, decent freight, less of a nanny state, an overall culture with more agreeable values, etc
Hopefully I can start lining up some direct work once I find a home base

The grass is most certainly greener on the other side. I'll promise you that.Grijon, Terry270, fordconvert and 1 other person Thank this. -
i was surprised that Nebraska's CCW program is just like California's. It took about 3-4 months after the classes for the permit to arrive. My in-laws in Iowa got theirs just as Rambling man says. Seems backwards as Iowa has somewhat draconian laws compared to nebraska.

However, they have recently made that easier by allowing the same to be done at satellite county offices. Last time I only had to go 10 miles away to the north service center, then go across the street to the Sandy Springs police to get the finger prints done. I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming it. Still took two months to come in the mail, but it wasn't a crisis since I knew it was expiring and went in early enough.
Now if they'd let me do IRP/IFTA business at my county tag office instead of driving to the dept of revenue HQ down on the sw side of Atlanta deep in the hood, I wouldn't know what to do with myself. Oh wait, we just entered the 21st century with online renewals, so I don't have to even go there any more LOL.Grijon, fordconvert and double yellow Thank this. -

A good thing about TN CCP is it is recognized and honored by most other states in the region southeast and midwest. Up into the northeast things get a little hairy and also don't get caught in the people's republic of Illinois either.
fordconvert, double yellow and Terry270 Thank this.
