44 years as a driver, to be exact. Longer then most people here have been drivers, that for sure.

I laugh at the old backward truck drivers who think automatics don't work, too funny. Umm...you have heard that ROBOTS and autonomous vehicles are coming right? Yes there will still be a human driver in the seat for 100 years or more, but the truck will be driving itself. With an AUTOMATIC lol

    No, you joker!. :)

There are at least two places you wont find me.

Walmart and Swift would be two of those.

The simple fact is that manual transmissions (and the ability to operate one) are a dying breed. As automatics get better and manuals harder to find (mostly high performance cars) fewer and fewer young people are learning to drive manuals.

I'm currently driving a 10-speed auto and except for heavy stop-n-go traffic HATE IT! I can shift a manual FAR quicker that it can and I double clutch. That said unless I go back to OTR I'll probably finish my driving career with an automatic.

I didn't go to Swift academy, I got my CDL in 2014, drove with PTL till early 2015 and hadn't been in a truck since my driving test last week. I was tested on an 8 speed and my mentor has an 8 speed, however some individuals that were in my orientation are in automatics. At one point my mentor and I had to hop into a 10 speed daycab because our sleepercab was overweight and the customer wasn't but 2 hours away from the office.

What you're provided with is what they have available. There is no real rhyme or reason that dictates what you will receive it's all at random.

No such thing as an 8-speed.

Well, the highest gear on his truck is 8.
You want a picture for proof or something?
