I'm looking at buying a truck, but am doing rather extensive research on it first. I've hopped on the CB trying to pick some brains in real time, but no one ever answers me (though the radio does work). Are there any O/O's out there that are willing to answer some questions about buying/owning a truck?

I'm on my sixth one now.
I just got my latest one in May.
The salesman that I have used a few times now, says that out of about five hundred customers I'm one of only about four that seem to actually care about the numbers and the specs in detail. He says most guys just want a truck that does the job, oh, and how much power does it have.Ruthless Thanks this. -
More than happy to. Don't ever ask questions n CB unless out in the middle of nowhere. There are too many idiots out there.

one of the main questions is:
what % of the gross income should I put aside to take of business taxes? Not my personal payroll taxes, the taxes the business would be responsible for paying -
I don't know if ot helps, but I used to set aside one check a month post expenses for taxes. At the end of the year, i generally came out with having a money left over in that account to give muself as a "bonus" or "tax return"
Others guys set aside around 30% of the net3RD COAST TRUX Thanks this. -
Good place to start is the Letstruck website run by Kevin Rutherford. He has program that will explain every step it takes to become a successful O/O. If you have XM Radio you can catch him on the weekends at 3:00 cst. On channel 146. He also does Podcasts on a lot of different subjects. As far as you tax question, when your a soul proprietor it's all the same, you only do one tax return when your a one truck operation leased to a carrier. Also I need to give warning that some people on this board HATE,HATE,HATE, Kevin R. Not sure exactly why but just be warned, thats why you don't see him mentioned on here much except by me. If you go to his website check out Fuel Gauges for fuel tracking and Profit Gauges, it's some of the best trucking software out there. Good Luck

Ya, KR recommends about 9% of the gross will take care of your income taxes as a sole proprietor. Not sure if you're incorporated.
I'm in Canada and 9% works here too. Last year it was within $145. I always thought if I was within a thousand I was doing pretty good. -
You go to the CB for business advice?
Really, you might find that driver with the missing panties before you get any real business advice over the CB.
