I got a call today from the corporate office of the company I had recently worked for. I would call him a driver retention specialist. He told me that my driver manager had told corporate, in writing, that I was no longer available to work for them. I responded, "that is a lie". I told him the manager had stopped scheduling me for work a month ago when I had a minor back injury and was off work for a week. I had a full release to return to work given to the manager, and I never heard from him again. The manager has been running help wanted ads the past few weeks in the Scranton paper and online, so I knew they had work for me.
It was obvious the manager intended to never call me back to work, but lied to corporate about it, and now corporate knows he lied to them. This manager was not someone you wanted to cross, as he made it clear with his favorite phrase "not in my house".
I told the corporate guy I would never go back to work for them, and I would never recommend the company to another driver.....
I already have another job lined up. But the kicker is the company denied my workers comp claim and I now have a $508 medical bill with the clinic that the manager sent me to for treatment. I had back pain onset after pulling some shrink wrap and moving a few cartons of frozen food. The pain got worse the next day when I was off.
So I have filed a petition with the Penn Workers Comp Commission for the medical expenses. The hearing is scheduled before a judge next week, here in Scranton. I am not using an attorney, as it is such a small claim. I think the judge will find in my favor.
I think this one driver manager is a bad apple, but the company is good to work for. Good pay, good equipment, good dispatchers. I would recommend this company, even though this DM is kind of a dick...just be aware of him. The company is ironclad logistics, owned by Lilly Corp in needham, ma. Ironclad is in gouldsboro, pa, and they haul to shoprite stores in nj, ny, and philly.
Driver manager caught in a lie....
