Lots of companies hire inexperienced drivers.

Living in Florida will be your biggest impediment to finding employment.

Do you think I have better options in this industry in NY? I currently live in NYC.

New York will be in almost everyone’s hiring area. Not much freight in Florida so many companies do not hire from there but if you look hard enough you will find something.

NYC will get you all the Hunts Point loads the company has.

Maybe a bunch of Jersey loads too. Figures you be a homeboy and all that.

IF you know anything at all about this area I speak of... then God be with you into battle.

Florida doesn't produce much outside of flowers and oranges so it has only a small percentage of the freight moving into and around NYC. It's not impossible for a new guy in Florida, but your options would be nearly limitless in NYC.

Not true. Plenty of other produce, dairy, flat bed freight.
The downfall about Florida I'd not the amount of freight, it's what the freight pays.....it's not the best rates for sure.

Big carriers are self insured so that's why they are easier to get started with. Smaller companies are often bound by insurance requirements on who they can hire. There are some exceptions so keep looking around like your on a mission from God.

A lot of companies don't hire south of Orlando. Good local work is tough to find down there outside Jacksonville or Orlando.

You'll get more offers if you claim the NYC address and then change it after you get hired so you save the income tax. You'll still get plenty

You can fill out apps now without a cdl and get pre hire letters which mean they want to hire you. Youre just not hired yet officially. May have to provide some verified work history or whatnot.

States give grants for in need positions. The city of Laredo gives folks 10k to get their cdl to locals.
You just have to agree to live there a year. Many many many other programs like that. A company owned training school and commuting a year to them is foolish since you have good options with that shiny record.
Age is good to. If you were younger you wouldn't have as many options.

Its a travesty the barriers insurance companies have put on young peoples ability to find work. Think 50k out of high school. That's a sexy number along with a free place to live & seeing places other than your hometown.
Its hard to find a job that pays more than $10 out of high school.

I feel bad for these kids nowadays. Definitely don't have the opportunities available I had.

Hell in Indiana you have to be 21 to get a job at red lobster! Why? Because they serve booze across a bar. But you bring it out to the table you can be 18?

The idiotcy of it all. What do they do?! Go sell drugs! That's what they do!
Its sad. Ppl try and get honest work and get told nope.

    (Sorry for the soapbox )

I've just been seeing a lot of kids I umpire getting locked up when I know they've actually went out and made an effort. Drugs sucking off government money for college or military. Bout the only options ya get.

But yeah op you're good :p
If you were under 25 some ppl wouldn't look at you. There's actually companies that won't hire you until you get 40 so you are a young man. ;)
