I'm trying to be positive, I truly am. I also have expectations.
Lies and broken promises. How am I supposed to react to these?
If I factually report an event that disappoints me, I'm whining. If I don't call someone, it's my fault. I don't get it. I am a driver. Not a dispatcher. Not a driver manager. Not a planner.
And, I'm sorry, but 'that's just trucking' is a copout.

@KD5AXG
Another thought about the fueling issue you hit yesterday... do you have EFS Checks?
If the card won't work for one reason or another, an additional option is to ask about using the EFS Checks... call the office, (yes this will require communication on your part) and ask about using an EFS Check to dump $100 gallons in the tank and roll.
Personally, I would not miss a drop because of a card not working. Sometimes one must get creative and think outside the box to get the job done. -
I will work with you side by side on each and every load... I will go to bat with you on any issue that we agree is the companies fault.
But you MUST take ownership this issue!!!
(The following comments are from a Driver to a Driver... I have no internal connection to this company in any way, shape, or form therefor this is in no way an official statement on the companies behalf.)
but... YOU JUST DONT GET IT...
(Hold on tight... it's gonna get rough)
Do you even know just how negative you are??? If it were just me commenting then I could say it's just a personality conflict between you and me... or insert any other number of possibilities here... I am very open to additional options here...
But you have other drivers commenting... you even have a few of our thread "viewers" commenting and they don't even work here.
Heck, while I was away on vacation even @RebelChick commented something about your negativeity being worse than hers... and trust me she is no "cheerleader" for this company either and she will tell you that too.
Yesterday you were "ready and willing" at 8am and didn't get a load until after noon and I think you said you didn't make the drop on time... because of a two hour issue with your card not working.
You have "expectations"???
So does this company!!!
We are a 48 State carrier whose main lanes includes your favorite "devils highway" of I95... we run days and nights and sometimes within the same 24 hour period!!!
You don't want NYC/NE because it's unsafe for you to drive there, you stop with time on your clock at the end of the day... why? Because you had to wait on a load too long and now you are tired because you had to sit around waiting... you want coast to coast loads in the southern states during daytime hours because you can't nap during the day...
Dude, it's not "just trucking"... ITS YOU!!!
If you want to be successful here then stop limiting yourself... is all of it your fault... no, if you can't nap then you need to be working for a DAYTIME company that can run you 8-5... THAT AINT ABILENE.... sorry... it's not.
I recently suggested to you Danny Herman Trucking as they don't go NE/NYC... they have longer hauls than Abilene does with I think an average load going 1,100+ miles... they run Coast to Coast in the Southern States... sounds perfect for you.
But here at Abilene you limit the loads you are able to run and then complain that they don't give you miles... well... DUH... if you are only eleigible for half the loads they have you are not going to have loads available to you. Period.
Yesterday you either dropped a load late or it had to be rescued... you will say "it's because of a card issue"... dude... stop blaming others... you failed that load ... I bet several, if not the rest of us, here would never have failed that load... because of a "card issue"... and half here would have dumped their own cash in the tank to make it happen... (and #### right I expect I will get reimbursed because I did right by the Customer) ... are you "expected" to pay cash out of your own pocket for this or that when the company should be paying... NO... but many of us here certainly would do just that FOR the company... and get paid back after... and that attitude is what you are missing here...
Instead of "get it done at all costs"
it's "who can I blame today"... ugh
Sorry Dude... I "recruited" you... I honestly thought Abilene would be a good fit for you... but now I fear that you simply are not a good fit for Abilene... and that is totally on me.

Well said Macpopcorn169, JohnBoy and MidWest_MacDaddy Thank this. -
Couldn't have said it any better!!
MidWest_MacDaddy Thanks this. -
I disagree you shouldn't have to use your own money to put fuel in the truck. I don't know how many fuel stops was between where he was trying to get fuel and where the shipper was. He may have been able to keep rolling to another one while the problem gets corrected.
I do not I don't trust the Kenworths fuel gauge. The Volvo I will trust it down to the the quarter tank. I ran Volvos for over two years so I know them.
You shouldn't have to fight for home time every time. You may have to remind them every once in awhile but for the most part it should be without hassle.
I don't how far away he lives from our customers though. That could play into it. I think the farther away you live from a terminal could also play into it.MidWest_MacDaddy and Lonesome Thank this. -
Same thing with hometime. If I have it in writing somewhere, that this is the policy, and someone in management told me different, I might also be a bit ticked. Who should I believe, the printed manual I received at the orientation, or someone on the phone, who might have a different answer than the book, or the person in the next cubicle.Last edited: Oct 5, 2016
KD5AXG Thanks this. -
I also said half of the drivers here probably would... so the other half would not... but there are also other responses to this situation that would not have resulted in failing a load. -
if a truck has an issue with the fuel guage, as this one may have, per a conversation here some two weeks ago, I would certainly not risk running it empty either. No one said it was wrong to want to top off and run on the top half of the tanks. I certainly would.
Time off is 1 day off for every 6 days out. If anyone has a concern, and more importantly wishes to actually address it, then they need to be talking to folks higher up the chain of command...
Sometimes action is required to address issues be it fuel or home time...popcorn169 and Lonesome Thank this. -
@MidWest_MacDaddy I think it may be a personality conflict because I don't like you and I like everyone and I never like to admit when I'm wrong.
Lonesome and MidWest_MacDaddy Thank this.
