Well, I finally got 95% of all my paperwork filed and in play to get my own MC Authority. Thinking that through internet all things are faster, I figured I'd be able to go foward and make some money soon, but at this minute, it turns out there's a waiting/objection period or something to get your MC# approved after you get your docs in. I must've missed that part in the filing process, so now, I'm sitting still, making nothing, and need to.......
It's gonna be a loooong ten days. If one of y'all need some help for ten days or so, send p.m. I have ten days to kill and want to work.
Well I guess I'm in for a little more sittin'.....

You should be approved within days, you will have to have insurance on file with the gooberment before they actually release your final authority letter, but thats just a matter of your agent faxing some paper work over to them.
Oh prepare for a cavity search by the DOT within the first few months of you operating, they do a audit on all new MC #'s within the first few months now, they been doing that for about 6 years now. -

Whats needed and what are the costs for the authority?
Im going to do a cost comparison to here for my own interest. -
I couldnt tell ya now, but when i filled for ours when i was a kid 10 years ago, lol, it was $50. I *think* its $300 now. Then you have your IFTA, which is just a fuel tax sticker, its free in MI just have to file your quaterly returns ofcourse. UCR is a new thing that started 2 years ago, i believe i paid $130 for 2 trucks and 2 trailers? Oh and the new mexico permit was $12 for 2 trucks. Thats what i need for the year in permits alone.
Then you have insurance, which depending on truck and age etc, but i pay $6800 a year for that.Donk Thanks this. -

Authority Filing: 300
BIPD Insurance: 7500
Cargo Insurance: 975
BOC-3 Filing: 35
IRS Fuel Tax: 550
Base Plates: 800
Then is IRC, IFTA, UCR and a couple more.
Opportunity Cost having to ride out the waiting period, so some goobermental bureaucrat can drink coffee and tell you to sit home and do nothing until the period is over?......... not exactly Priceless. -
Where did you get a IRP tag for only $800? Unless you only plan to run in state..... OK use to do this and give out cheap tags thats why everybody had an "office" in OK. But since the great state of IL sued them they had to quit and bring their prices up to what everyone else charges......... Looking at $1800-2400 depending on states and home state.
The 2290 $550 is not a fuel tax, its a heavy highway use tax. IFTA is fuel tax and that has to be done quaterly.Baack Thanks this. -
