My last post was just me trying to be funny. Actually I agree 100% with you and think a lot of company drivers don't respect their equipment.

My torn shoulder wasn't because of kingpin issues. I was locked into the trailer the landing gear was stripped and when I was raising the landing gear that is what got me.

Glad you seen I was only joking about the sissy remark.I've had comical arguements with guys over that and that's who I got that remark from, lolThey were kidding of course they used pullers I've always found them easier. For me it's easier on the back, less likely to get dirty and especially come winter when the fifthwheel is all iced up muddy which could cause the handle to stick.I've had fifth wheels like the one you described reside up then out. Some handles are extremely hard to work with but for me I never traveled without a puller.

On a side note many trailers were dropped at the right height. But trailer suspension wasn't dropped first or unable to in some cases .. once trailer bleeds air off it raises the nose .. if I find one dropped high sometimes I hook up lines and fill suspension with air then set brakes again voila right height in many cases

My Holland was recently replaced with a Jost. The sound of a good lock is much louder.

Since I run a spring ride, I'm one of the much maligned "high droppers", and some will just have to get over it. I hate wiping all my grease off every time.

I've made the OP's mistake once.

Pulling the handle was only step one. Finding a pry bar and prying the jaws apart was step two.

When the handle wont pull easy, it's almost always because of pressure on the jaws from the trailer king pin. Jump back in the truck, and push back against the trailer. Set the tractor brakes before letting off of it so the truck doesn't roll back forward. If that didn't do it, then the fifth wheel jaws are set too tight. They are adjustable. So my next step is to get out the tools and adjust it properly.

    That clear it up?
