Back in the earlier days of this site there were many horror stories of this sort of thing. They will hound you to the ends of the earth for that money too.

If I went to work for a big OTR company I would have to go straight through there training from start to finish almost like I was a new driver. Obviously some of that is policy learning how to work the computer and load planning and all the other odds and ends.
However that works in reverse we have had guys come to GFS who were OTR and they struggled a little bit in the beginning, I think it was the unloading the trailer and the driving is different, different equipment different trailers, my whole career thus far I've been dealing with the 28' trailers and I do pull the bigger stuff on occasion, but there is a big difference between 53' and 28' when it comes to backing the 53' do not wonder nearly as much.nw88 Thanks this. -

*However,
I have been around a lot of people who have made decisions that I would not have made and these were decisions that with common sense which doesn't exist anymore any one would have said "No don't do that, screw the popular narrative and stay the lame brain boring mike2633 route because while it may not be popular and seemingly take forever to get off the ground, once it's off the ground you'll be sitting prettier then half the people out there."
As much as people complain and stuff really all you have to do in this country to make it, is some small calculations. Try not to have illegitimate kids,, don't get deep into debt, don't do things that attract police attention and for gosh darn sake screw the popular kids and the popular narrative and looking cool, because when the police come and all that jazz those people are going to be looking out for them selves.
Not that I am some kind of case study, because I know some people just don't have it in them, but if your some kid in 5th and 6th grade and your reading this thread right now I have some advise for you right now, go out this minute and get a job somewhere yes it can be done in 6th grade go up to the local country club in the summer and start caddying, go up to the local small time place, like maybe a mom and pop pizza store ask them if you can work on the weekend and see if they will pay you under the table and then show up and you work your behind off and you just go and save all that money and continue to work like that all through your middle school and high school days. I'll tell you why, by the time your done with high school you'll have $10,000-$12,000 dollars saved up and you'll be ahead of 90% of your classmates.
The great part about it, is if you want to buy a car or go to truck driving school or community college you'll have money to pay for it.
Now this one you can go either way, I went to truck school part time on the weekend because I wanted to keep working. If your right out of high school though you could go full time it's only 4 weeks problem in federal laws do not let 18-20 year olds drive interstate so you would be better off almost getting a job like I did at a pizza shop and if your want I would say go to community college see if you can get an associates degree in something then at 21 get into truck school if you want. That's not 100% what I did, but it worked out that way I have a 2 year degree and there's another driver at my yard where I work, who he's not a car mechanic, but he has some technical training in automobile repair and has worked at some auto shops and it's always good to have some broad horizons, I worked at a welding shop and a pizza shop and also owned a carpet cleaning business so they say it in school, but it's good to have some experience and be well rounded.
Anyhow that's my rant I am done thank you.Last edited: Oct 15, 2016

I wish you the best of luck with this!
But, you might want to keep track of the hours you work. Just for your own information.
