This topic has been on my mind. I hate bungees. They cling to everything and make securement and tarping go slower than I want. They are a pain. I have tried bundling them and find the bundles just grip to each other. I'm keeping my bundles laying on their sides inside my box. I'm trying to avoid weather damage and theft. I guess I like that "shake em out while you walk around your load" idea the best so far.

Have you considered switching to rope or shock cord?

I finally did this about 6 months ago or so and wish i had ten years ago. Makes it so much faster.

I keep going back and forth. My trailer doesn't have hooks on the trailer, and no two loads I do are alike, so I end up threading a new row of D-rings and fumbling with s-hooks on the rub rail. I really like how rope holds a tarp, but when you're doing 3-6 drops it costs more time than it saves.

Dude, put some hooks on. Tri city canvas has screw on one's for like a buck nothing each. Could probably do the whole trailer on a Saturday afternoon. Or stretch it out most the day to cover the six pack.

The problem (for me, anyway) with the pipe idea is where the heck do you store them?

I bunch my bungees up in groups of 15...with a 16th bungee tying them up with a cow hitch. Use that bungee to secure the bundle anywhere on the truck or trailer...cross members under the deck are perfectly spaced & out of the way. When tarping, I generally only need 2 bundles per tarp...one for each side...along with the 2-4 bungees keeping each tarp rolled up tight when it's stowed.

I like the idea of the clips instead of the S-hooks. I prefer the bungees that have the bungee-side of the S crimped in (so it doesn't slip off the bungee and get lost, and also won't poke through the tarps)...and typically will bend any hooks I find that aren't already like that. Those clips would solve both of those problems...but as previously mentioned, the longevity of the clips is a concern...especially given the cost (money and time) involved in switching everything over.

Careful hanging bungees off the trailer. We had a guy get a ticket for that. Nothing except for a tarp on a load is allowed to be secured by a bungee...including other bungees. We both know that's a bs ticket but every once in a while you get that fresh out of school dot officer out to save the world. My favorite story on that theme is my friend skateboardman got an unsecured load violation for a loose bungee on the deck directly behind the load..or was it in front of it? I forget which but i saw the ticket with my own eyes. Doubt id have believed him if he didnt keep a copy of it. Freaking hysterical.

I would if I ever made it down there anymore. They sell JB straps, too, and have some of the best tarp repair rates.

I'm more interested in finding some wire J-hooks for making custom length bungees out of shock cord, and I know they sell those, too.

When I first started flatbedding 12 or so years ago, I remember the whole "tarp straps are NOT rated, and CAN NOT be used to secure anything but a tarp that is covering the load" speech. Since then, and I'm not sure how recent the change was (I just got back into flatbedding almost 2 years ago), things have changed. Apparently, bungees are good for 50# WLL, and are even stamped as such. That being the case, 15 bungees is nowhere near 50#, and it should not be an issue.

Rated polyurethane straps are stamped. Natural and synthetic rubbers are not.
