Anyway to call them and give them a heads up? If so, I would.

I learned that from the 6 Cub Foods drops I did in MN. Not a single store manager had any clue they were getting new coolers. Go figure ... eh? lol

@chralb already called since no ones here and wanted to verify since none of the names or addresses match for consignee and warehouse and unable to find any associations on the interwebs. And since several warehouses and businesses share the same address i could totally deliver to right address but wrong person!

As for the DOT, Section 395.8
    ***************
Question 26: If a driver is permitted to use a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) for personal reasons, how must the driving time be recorded?

    Guidance:
a driver is relieved from work and all responsibility for performing work, time spent traveling from a driver’s home to his/her terminal (normal work reporting location), or from a driver’s terminal to his/her home, may be considered off-duty time. Similarly, time spent traveling short distances from a driver’s en route lodgings (such as en route terminals or motels) to restaurants in the vicinity of such lodgings may be considered off-duty time. The type of conveyance used from the terminal to the driver’s home, from the driver’s home to the terminal, or to restaurants in the vicinity of en route lodgings would not alter the situation unless the vehicle is laden. A driver may not operate a laden CMV as a personal conveyance. The driver who uses a motor carrier’s Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) for transportation home, and is subsequently called by the employing carrier and is then dispatched from home, would be on-duty from the time the driver leaves home.

A driver placed out of service for exceeding the requirements of the hours of service regulations may not drive a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) to any location to obtain rest.
    ************

You'll note it makes no mention of a trailer or not and is rather vague on "short distance" but clear on "going home". Under the "interpretations" section to 395, "laden" refers to freight. So an empty trailer, not under dispatch is (in my view from that), Not laden.

I am under the same impression...

I don't see any difference between BT and pulling an empty box... both are company equipment and the Driver is neither under load nor being compensated for their time.

    But I've been wrong before...

Would be interested in hearing what Safety says.

He is the only one that I have talked to that has had that problem here. Most of my delays was caused by me accepting a load that wouldn't get me back in time. I usually did it just to get the miles.

Sometimes their Guidance is just as clear as the rule.

Now tell us how to use the PC option... LOL

    Thanks for posting this information.

Now the downside of driving home without a load or order is not being paid for those miles... but sometimes getting home and on time is more important than waiting around to be dispatched there.

That information refers specifically to driving while not logging anything, or in other words, inactive on the system. The PC rule is a tad different. It allows for personal use while logged in and under load, empty or BT but actively dispatched.

For example, You're under dispatch and you've just finished your day and went off duty or in sleeper. You need to hit Wal-Mart to buy food or something. You can use the PC to do so as long as it doesn't exceed the 45 minutes driving allowed.

I'm logged out and headed SW.

Regardless, the Alan I spoke to did admit that my residence location is a detriment to me getting home time. He also was taken aback when he learned I had turned in my notice.

I don't know. I have my alternate plans that in no way effect future home time. And, sadly, Abilene is not part of those plans.
