Are you thinking combination dump? Correct me if I'm wrong, 73,280 is the gross on a class b triaxle.

Have you looked at the power unit of the truck? What ideas do you have as far as what kind of truck?

What do you think you'll mainly be hauling?

So you need a truck that weighs roughly 21-22k empty.

Maybe ask your friend about the specs on his companies trucks.
Find out what kind of bodies they are running. Aluminum, steel or combination.
What kind of truck it is. Pete, mack. Freightliner, cat, Volvo.
It's just a make of truck yes, but some are heavier than others.
What engines they're running in said trucks.

You want to find out what sets your friends company trucks apart from the rest. When you have a baseline then you can go shopping.

Others will be along through the morning and rest of the week that have experience building triaxles up from the bottom. I only have experience getting a signed a truck. Told to put 24 ton of rock in it and go.

Here's some general specs l would start with. 20,000 lbs front axle either 46 or super 40 rear ends and tridem rear suspension. Double frame insert or 3\8 frame minimum. 20 foot aluminum box depending on your work.

I really know little about dump trucks except in Pennsylvania a single vehicle can only gross 73,280 no matter how many axles you have and you will not get an overweight permit like tou can in New York. Also, you need to have an idea what you plan on hauling as there are many different types of bodies such as heated, plastic lined, rock bodies, and so on. Also you may need an air operated tailgate, a spreader gate, an asphalt shoot in the gate, etc. You will need to decide what you will haul, where you will haul it, and what the general contractors in your area require.

Lastly, in my corner of NE PA most dumps only get $75-$85 per hour, even on state highway jobs, NJ pays much better.
