50+ more horsepower and 6.5 % more fuel efficiency seems like quite an upgrade for the new upcoming Volvo's, how many of you think you will trade up for the new engine? Do you think it could break 9mpg? Also how much more do you think the newly outfitted Volvo will cost?

Two turbos. Yeah that's a great idea. All mechanics are starting to look for a new boats

The old D12Ds 2003 2004 era had the turbo compound when they were u/s we used to put custom plate over the hole with an oil line and put a normal turbo on

its not two turbos they are going to the same set up as cascadia has with dd15 has with the turbo compounding which has proved to be pretty efficient. they are also going to a common rail system like all the other engines in the market pretty much. what scares me is that they are cutting a lot of weight from their engine and this is going to be the interesting part they are making a lighter block also hollow camshaft again same as the dd15 but i guess time will tell. They are trying to compete with dd15 for fuel and reliability. it's better to wait a couple of years before they work out all the bugs before jumping into a new one that would at least be my opinion. the first year or two it's always a lot of problems for new designs.

Thanks for clarifying that

That's some high compression for a big engine. The turbo compounding sounds interesting, using spent gas to turn the crank a bit more. I thought someone did that back in the mid 90s, though-

From a purest standpoint, reliability should improve for Volvo over using VG design. It might be worth the move. But then, if folks would use turbo blankets on their VG turbos, they would save a lot of actuators on them. A blanket over the exhaust side of the turbo would increase flow thru there by not letting temps drop in the housing (creating a slight bottle neck thereby causing increased EGT's at the manifold), and would keep heat away from the actuator and intake side. I can place my hand right on the turbo blanket on a hot engine that has just done a grade under a load and not risk burning my hand. I have grown fond of turbo blankets since I started using them earlier this century. And no, I have not had to replace one turbo using a blanket.Another Canadian driver, NWAF, RubyEagle and 3 others Thank this. -
Clear enough?Another Canadian driver, NWAF, Oram and 1 other person Thank this.
