I have never figured I'm making any money at 1.30 a mile and I don't have a truck payment. Pays the bills if I have to run that cheap from time to time but at some point you have to replace equipment and 1.30 a mile doesn't cut it. It means I'm only making roughly .30 cents more than a company driver and assuming all the risk.

Costs me about 70 cents to roll a mile. I'd make 60 cents a mile pulling for 1.30. Not many company drivers making 60 cents per. Now I agree it's a garbage rate and why I left my last company, but let's not act like it's poverty either. $1/mile is poverty.

A short cut route would be to lease to a good agent based all owner operator company, develop those relationships and prove yourself to them while under the carriers umbrella. Then when you strike out on your own you have a good list of contacts for good freight.

I didn't say it was poverty but i know for a fact i could get a job paying the equivalent of 60 cpm. won't be for some mega otr box company, after all, they are the lowest paying in the industry. But for a guy that presents himself well, has whitefish and a good work history, combined with a good attitude, he won't have a problem finding a top tier top pay job.

Edit to add: 60 cpm cost is about right for a guy with a very low, or no truck payment(mine is currently 63 but that includes a trailer and gear). But no way is a sni lp finance guy operating that low.

Everyone's definition of poverty is different which is why this discussion has been going on for years and years. Some guys live in their trucks and others have houses and go home. No one is right or wrong. To each their own. One thing I can tell you though, when your on the side of the road with a blown rear looking at thousands of dollars of repair, tow, and down time, it takes alot of miles at 1.30 to make that back up. That's simple math. Lol.

Long term I don't want to be driving a truck forever but that's a different subject for a different day.
I didn't switch to team just for the money, even though everybody thinks I'm making less money lol.
Since joining here while solo 99% of the time I've ran circles around the same areas over and over again.
I did it because it was profitable but crap it got boring!
So I did this also to do something new, see the country again etc. Will be taking a reset tonight in Lake Tahoe, if I was still solo i wouldnt have that opportunity.

As far as the money goes.. and for this guy..
Yes i can make more money than solo and by running at good old $1.30
I will use this week as an example.
I flew out back to my truck Sunday afternoon, a solo load was finish and then we went back to teaming.
Monday at about 00:15 we started teaming. Today at 11:00 we arrived at final customer before taking a reset.
In that time about 7 1/2 days we did about 8130 miles and the truck grossed $10,937 so like $1.345 all miles.
Also getting $5000 bonus paid over 6 months so let's just say that's an extra $200 in Revenue this week.
Figure fuel to be around $2800
My fixed costs included maintenance account around $1470.
That leaves me let's just say $6,800 before paying my driver.
No I'm not going to share specifics on that but lets randomly say my total costs for the driver were $2,300.
That then would leave me $4,500.
Bare in mind that had an extra half day in that work week but I'm fine with those numbers, I'm making more than when I was solo.
No we normally don't do $10k a week however as time goes on I am learning more and doing better.
Now when I'm off and my driver is solo I still have those $1470 in fixed costs, more than when I was solo thanks to shaddy SFI.
Say driver does 2800 miles a week at $1.75 all miles (not hard when I can camp the board and book 2+ loads per day). $4900 - $1470 fixed costs - estimate $950 in fuel + $200 in bonus = $2680 before paying the driver.
For random simple sake let's say the driver cost me $1680 that week, that would leave $1000 to me.
Now when I was solo it would cost me $1000 to sit the truck vs taking a week off and earning money.
So there's your math you guys. To suggest I am earning less money doing this vs what I use to do here solo is an absurdity!

Fixed cost plus your est fuel cost: $4270 not including either drivers pay. On the 8130 miles that comes out to be 52.5 cpm operating cost(plus driver pay).

Somehow me thinks you be leaving some expenses out of that figure.

Look man n you ain't got to explain Jack to me, or anyone else. If your happy that's all that matters. I'm just saying it sure looks like your lying to yourself just add much add those guys doing an lp at any other mega pulling for 90 cpm plus fsc are lying to themselves.

Keep trucking. Hope you meet your goals.

I'm not paying the driver by the mile, driver is being paid percentage.
Gotta have incentive for the driver to find good loads during down time :)
But I'll leave it at that

$1470 a week for a truck, maintenance, tags, insurance etc is leaving money out? Sounds like a lot of money to me.
Can't say I'm lying to myself and not show how so. What good does that do?
I just read those fixed costs off my statement, my statement must be lying right? ;)
