either one of those are good companies. If your in NYC your not going to be in central states pension plan most likely the eastern conference of teamsters plan or something like that. With NEMF I believe they are in the International Association of Machinists but look at both pension plans, work rules, and working conditions so you can determine whats best for you. Either way they are good companies just understand the work rules when you interview. Hope this helps. ABF is still a good place to call home.

Check out Saia they are expanding to the north east
-
ABF if you can get on. The vacation thing sucks, but it is a much better company overall.
NEMF only as a stepping stone to get LTL experience. -
Yes the ABF vacation thing sucks but it's only one year that your sacrificing but you do get personal and sick days so for the year you can add those up and make it into a vacation or whatever. ABF is also now doing driver training school so now would be the time to apply and get it at most terminals

ABF guys, what's a good time of day/day of week to go see a TM in person? They have an opening locally but their online system isn't working for me and they don't have a contact number. I'm thinking of midday right before lunch, by then the trucks should mostly be out?
I gotta find something. Went to the local CDL school to ask questions, the sales guy wanted to just talk non-stop. Caffeinated and toking from a vape thingie. I interjected a question or two.
One of them was; I want to get into LTL, which ones do you deal with?
His answer: never heard of that company.
When I mentioned some LTL companies a vague light went on, he'd heard of them, but they are mostly set up to funnel people to the punkin and others like that.
The only brochures in the lobby were from megas, and there weren't many.
I decided not to spend $4500 there. Even after he offered to take $1000 off the cost of the course, although the figure quoted was just $500 less than they'd quoted me over the phone some time back.
I'm looking at company training at an LTL, even YRC, rather than being part of whatever transaction a school has with megas. Or I'm going to a 1-week wonder and then see what I can find. Lifetime placement from a company that doesn't know their industry as well as a prospective student isn't worth much. -
