What does that have to do with trip leasing? I'm really confused now.

The message is about doing paid work for someone other than SNI - company or IC. If you are getting paid - even an honorarium - that time must be logged on duty not driving. This isn't a SNI thing, it's a FMCSA thing. When I was going thru CDL school the big "trucker news" was a driver who was also a jump pilot. He flew one last sortie the night before he left out and was paid to do it. Couple of days later he's in an accident. He was ruled outside the HOS because a) the flying invalidated his 34 and b) he didn't have a full ten hour break from when he signed the flight manifest/post-flight/whatever to when he came on duty. Had he not been paid it would have been recreational, thus not covered under the HOS. Being paid it should have been logged on-duty not driving.

If you pick up a bar tending shift - on duty.

Work the pit for your friend's race car and get paid - on duty.

Paint your house - off duty. Get paid to paint somebody's house - on duty.

Im completely lost here and my truck is in the shop so I can't see the message. Is it possible they are talking about guys running a dually in the off time? But even that would be a cmv.
