Its been a good 4 years since I tore into a transmission. I do recall a lot of those things now that you bring them up. I'm going to definitely check over the clutch fork and cross shafts once I start to really open it up.
I'm finding all kinds of things on this project that have been changed around. I actually got my hopes up as the transmission data plate was in rough shape and I thought I read RTX-15613 instead of RTX-15615

Incase anyone was curious as to what the guts of a transmission looks like.
260REM, BIGZILLA and Dye Guardian Thank this. -
Pretty.... And nothing I ever care to tackle, that's why mechanics are on this earth.....lol
-
This is only the 2nd one I've had apart. They look much more complicated than they actually are. So far its looking pretty good inside.
-
Have you checked the synchro rings on the main shaft? I think the proper term is clutches?
-
They look ok so far. The 3 shift forks in the main box are worn out though.
-
In all actuality, it'd be good to go with new shift forks and input shaft. I'm going to re-bearing the countershafts and replace the range synchronizer since I'm already there. I'm going to re-seal the range and deep reduction pistons too since they haven't been used in over 10 years.

So I've realized that this truck needs a name. Suggestions?
