hey there everybody going to be starting trucking school next month and im excited/nervous at the same time.
I visited the school today and he said the first week is nothing but classroom work to get us prepared for the test at the secretary of state. I can't remember what the test is for and was wondering if anybody knows?

You'll take your air brakes, tanker, general knowledge and combination tests. What state are you in? For the most part, the tests are pretty standardized. Crist CDL online tests are a great study guide. When I went through, I did nothing but sit in my room and go through each of those tests until I got 100% on all of them. And guess what? Every question that was in that site were almost identical to the ones in the DMV test. I got 100 on all parts except air brakes where I got a 90. Dont sweat the written. It's really easy. The sweating comes during the road test. Where I took mine was the parking lot of the DMV which was tiny. Out of 12 people in my class, only 3 people passed. One girl clipped a pickup truck and dragged it about 20 feet. But that was just my experience. Where you take the road test may be a nice big lot. But you will know how to operate the tractor trailer after a week or so in the seat at the yard. Learning to back it up, maneuver around cones etc. just hope the lot you take it in has plenty of space! And do NOT curb your trailer on any turns. Instant fail.

The manual is ok. But those online tests are what you need to memorize.

Actually the first test? When you go to the motor vehicle office and you give them all your paper work.
    Things like...
    Last drivers license.
    Medical exam results

I myself have limited hearing and only need glasses for reading (far sighted). So I bring in the results from these doctors detailing my vision and hearing. The audiologist has a form that shows where "allowed range" can be. So far the real difficulty is listening for an air leak. Tinnitus is a interesting part of men in old age. I hear a constant 2 psi air leak all the time.
