On duty is your 14 hour. I don't have a book at my home but if you do, read the hours of service rules very carefully and i think you be pleasantly surprised....

Yeap -- copy and paste from the dot website ;-)

60/70-hour rule example (Property and Passenger-Carrying)

The 60- and 70-hour limits require drivers to stop driving a CMV upon accumulating 60 or 70 on-duty hours (including all on-duty and driving time) over a period of 7 or 8 consecutive days, respectively. Prior to the sample log grid shown below, suppose the driver, using the 70-hour limit, accumulated the following on-duty hours over 8 days:

I don't have to read it. I was doing the DOT superintendent job for a company. I have accesss to the rules on the computer. I was just trying to get you to post the link for the one comment on line 4 not affecting the 70 hours.:yes2557:

I guess I have been lucky and not ran over my hours because I thought it was just driving hours, well I keep the door shut and drive so that helps I guess.

No; I do the recap for me so I know where I stand. There is no law that says you have to recap. DOT likes it when you recap. They can see where you stand and figure if you take the time to do this you are a proffesional and not flying by the seat of your pants.

I have only worked for 1 company that required the recap to be done. That was only for 2 months. The rest of the time, I never do it. I have keep track of my hours another way.

For me recapping is easy and I know what hours I have available. I use the recap inside the log cover.
