I see posters advertising used Swift trucks and almost every truck stop. Has anyone ever bought a used Swift truck? If so what was your experience with that truck. Do they maintain their equipment well? I can't imagine that they are in very good condition with the quality of drivers at Swift but maybe I'm wrong.

Double check the fine print to see who's responsible for getting truck upright and out of ditch.

I pay to get it hauled out of the ditch if the price was right!

In general, yes, they maintain them well. Most of the time Swift will trade a truck when it hits 500K. They will usually put new tires on it, run it through a through an inspection, and fix anything wrong with it before they put it out for sale. When I was at Swift there were two occasions when I had to give up trucks that had topped 500k which I would rather have kept.

You can definitely do a lot worse than an old Swift truck. I worked for SRT for all of two days. During that time I was assigned three different trucks, only one of which made it off the yard, and it wouldn't shift out of low range. All three of those trucks were at or near 300K miles.

The things to watch out for are the kinds of things that happen to trucks that have been idled a lot since Swift doesn't buy APU's. In particular, I'd plan on servicing or replacing the DPF filter pretty soon after I bought it.

Have you looked at the Maverick trucks? Look into those also.

Company I'm leased to has a fleet of midroof Volvos. One of them is an old Swift truck. We've had it several years now and it has been a good truck. I think it's an '05. Got a Cummins ISX with EGR, but no DPF.

All former Swift Trucks DPF Systems are checked and serviced before they are put on Trade.

Also, many trucks are between 300k to 450k miles.

Do you have any idea what Swift is asking for their used trucks?
