Check this guy out. He just rebuilt his Cummins ISX in 2011 prostar. He did 60 videos showing everything. Probably one of the hardest engine to rebuild today. It amazing to see him do it. He tells you what and why he doing stuff.

I would love to do more of my own too but IMO it seems better to have a good mechanic or maybe even 2...and then do PM's where ever and when ever....and keep moving!! Being a one man show I would rather satisfy a customer and then spend the money they just gave me on maintenece.

I would like to get a dang good cordless grease gun set up though.....and maybe some day be able top get 55 gallon drums of oil and cases of filters and do that myself.

And then on the longer list I would love to be able to sand blast and paint on a truck size scale!

I think when I buy a truck, I'm gonna find some kind of manual that will explain in detail every part on the truck and how to replace it. I hate fixing things and I'd rather just buy a brand new something rather than fix it, but when your livelihood is on the line, and you could save thousands and thousands of dollars over the course of just a year or two, kinda makes one think about things differently.

They say necessity is the mother of invention, and I would even say re-invention, as in "reinventing" oneself in order to survive.

Niceeee, hopefully I can put those years in myself man.
HAHA, yeah I still plan on using a shop for the hard things. I think the main thing is knowing so I won't get hosed ya know.

Oh yeah, haha I hear that driver

I agree, I just want to know what it is their telling me when something does go wrong. Also, if I know what to look for I can know when somethings not operating right to go ahead and get it fixed before it gets major. Actually knowing what happened when I hear that loud boom or something crack, and just praying its not major lol.

Yeah, that would be helpful, one could say just buy a new truck. But, I hate the newer trucks, their no fun haha. I like to hear a Jake coming down the road a mile from my house at night when I'm in bed, or the sound of an aggressive turbo not to mention the reliability. They took most that away in these newer trucks, plus I have nothing against Elogs but in a pre 99 I would love for it to be optional ya know.

Yeah, man has to adapt in order to survive!

I really want this 98 or 99 Classic XL (12.7 Detroit, 13spd) a guy I know has that I've been eyeing and to make it as reliable as a newer truck, doing most of the work myself. For 9500, I probably pick it up. It'll be a good investment, I could add more revenue by adding it to my run I have now, use it as a tool to learn, and make it into an all out awesome truck. WIN WIN WIN!

Yes Sir. I do. Thanks for the compliment. That ol girl is a labor of love. I grew up the silver spoon of trucking. Lol. Dad had a shop that I grew up in, bought my Pete at 21. Due to youth and a lead foot I hadda put a driver in it a few times, I was lucky enough to work beside some of the best mechanics around.
